Bizarre windshield wiper problem

In a nutshell, my wiper pattern is completely off. The travel is too short when it's dry and it's WAY too far when it's wet. Taking a quick look at things didn't give me any indication of an obvious solution. I've attached a few illustrations here to show just how far off in each direction it is..

It gets to the point when it's raining or I've sprayed washer fluid on that the wiper will actually catch on the frame around the windshield and bend/twist.

Any ideas?

You have to look at the linkages of the system to see if you have too much play. If you have a broken bushing there will be too much play and youll have exactly the problem you discribed.

Just wanted to say thanks! Once I got everything taken apart, I found one of the bushings had cracked/broken off. Got that replaced and everything is as good as new again.

wow

...seen monkeys tearing side trim off cars to eat the adhesive.... but never birds eating wipers, unless you mean they went headfirst...

You probably had a big bug stuck to one of the wipers...

Glad I helped. Now keep the glass clean and use OEM wiper blades.
