Exclamation Kirkwood Sucks!!!!

Just got back from Kirkwood. AWESOME snowboard day!

Then on the way home my scooby gets rearended by some motherffffer driving a SUV.

There was an overturned truck in the road and I slowed down and stopped behind it (the ABS came on kind of quickly over some black ice). Then I look in my mirror and see this guy driving faster than me in a 4runner. I hurried and pulled my car over to the other lane to go around the overturned truck, but there was a VW bug coming the opposite way blocking me. The idiot in the SUV brakes and skids over 50 ft, bounces off the right side of my rear bumper and then slams into the overturned truck almost hitting a bunch of people. It was really lucky this guy didn't hit a person. Nobody was hurt even though I wanted to beeotch slap the SUV driver.

One of my best days and one of my worst days.

Anyway the sube rocked up there.

If you go up please be careful. Peoples lives are more important than mostly anything else. AWD helps driving but braking is a whole other ballgame.

By the way, does anyone know of a really good body shop?Preferably in the east bay. Thanks.

I don't hate SUV's, I hate the stereotypical clueless Soccer Mom yappin' on her cell phone, paying attention to the kids in the back seat, putting on makeup, smokin' a cigarette, drinkin' coffee, tailgating, and generally do anything that has nothing to do with keeping their eyes on the road types of people who think that because they drive a big SUV that all of the sudden the laws of physics don't really apply to them and I really ought to have used some form of punctuation a long time ago so I'm going to end this sentence . . . NOW!!!

Now way! I feel for ya. I just got back from Kirkwood and didn't see any accidents. I left around 4:15 so you must have left after me.

Everybody, please be careful up there. Subie's are not invincible so drive with caution. There is plenty of black ice up there. I got caught in some but was able to pull out of it.

Angry

I'm with Gagan! I hate SUV's!
Well, maybe I see Velo's point.

The safety problem is that people don't respect what they are driving. The driver sits so high that the sense of speed is not there so people tend to drive these trucks faster than they should even though they take longer to stop and are much easier to roll. The advantage of course is that you can see over the traffic, but due to the above mentioned reasons, a large percentage of these drivers are not paying enough attention.

I drove to Santa Cruz yesterday and there was this SUV tail gating - and I mean 2-3 feet from the bumper - a Corvette. A CORVETTE! 17 is a curvy road with lots of blind corners, the vette was keeping approximately a 3 second space cushion from the car in front of him, passing slower trucks and traffic on the right. Now what do you think would happen if someone lost it around the next corner or a rock fell down the hill? The 'vette would be able to safely stop and avoid harming anyone and the SUV would seriously injure if not kill the driver AND destroy a beautiful car with his road pig. AAHH! I can just hear the jerk off in his truck saying, "Well, I wouldn't get hurt, he's the dumbass who drives such a small car, stupid thing's made of fiberglass, he should get him a real car."

Don't get me wrong, not all SUV drivers are bad, but too many are.

88 is the absolute WORST hwy in the sierra's...to bad the BEST resort is up there...

Lived up here most my life & always hear horror stories of black ice and rolls off cliffs on 88...

drive cautiously!!! everyone on that HWY is in danger...

and as for SUV's and soccer mom's; they all need to take a special drivers test, and get a special liscence, just like oldens over 70

I had a dent (thief broke into my car using a screwdriver) repaired in a body shop in San Pablo ave, around Albany when I had my 1995 Impreza. I was satisfied with their work (they even polished the dashboard material), and as far as I can recall, their price was the lowest of the several bodyshops I went to for a quote. This was several years ago, but If you're interested, I can get their number for you.

It's called sarcasm guys. Look it up.

Conditions at Kirkwood were SWEET. There was a very decent amount of snow, dry at the summit, no lines, and it cleared up beautifully in the afternoon.

My fender cracked a bit off. Right taillights smahed, trunk mechanism damaged, and quarterpanel dented. I also noticed that the quarterpanel is connected all the way to the front quarterpanel. Unibody construction? It's a big piece of metal to replace. Hope my insurance is good to me.

Anyone with good body work info please pm me.

Unhappy

My girlfriend just had her '00 RS worked on at Cooks Collision in Berkeley. It's at Claremont and Ashby/Tunnel Road. They did quality work, and I would definitely take any car back there. Sucks about your ride, at least you got some sick pow runs. Good Luck!

-Brian

P.S. If you want to go Drive sometime, drop me an email (seeing as you're in Oakland).

I'm going in an organized trip up there... so driving together or saying the same place isn't going to happen....

but, if you guys want to meet up at a resort then that's all good... i'm not very good at boarding... YET.... but we are gonna be going to heavenly because it's very close to where we are staying.... like 6 mins....

forecast calls for:

wed: snow showers
thursday: snow
friday: snow

so we shall have FRESH powder up there!!!

um, shall i dare say it.... WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Default 17............

Yea 17 is pretty bad, i usually change lanes if i see some idiot getting to close too fast, i'm confident in my rex's brakes, but some people just don't know when they're going too fast, and when those sharp turns hit, they just slam on the brakes all the way through the turn and hope they slow down..........they should test for twisty road competency when they give driving tests, especially in those areas where you know you must go through the mountains to do anything, like to go from SC to SJ.

oh okay. I think I might be going up to Bear Valley this saturday for a day trip. I'm not sure if I'm driving or getting a ride in a VW Passat 4Motion

I'll be in South Tahoe (Probably Sierra) on Tuesday the 18th.

And I'll probably be back up that following weekend.
