Default Liquidsk8s JDM STi Bugeye journal.

I decided to make a new thread detailing my Bugeyes history..... a long road full of both win and fail. All work has been done by myself.... many long frustrating nights but completely worth it.

Here are the cars current specs and a few photos for the moment. This isn't the end result yet either as I have a good amount of work that I plan to do over the next year. The photos/specs will be updated as I progress with the build.

Here are some crappy pics for now. When it's done I'll take some good ones.

Estimated weight:
Roughly 2,850 (will confirm when done)

Estimated HP: With the old VF37 (converted to PE1825) I did a dyno test to figure out issues. The car made just shy of 300whp BUT was very slow to spool and had high MAF temps which together created a lack of TQ/HP. This test was on 93 octane at sea level and I had 1 CAT.

New mods since the last dyno run:
ACPT CF driveshaft
Lighter wheels/tires
P&P throttle body and phenolic spacers
Removed bottleneck in exhaust
PW TMIC with proper shroud and DEI gold heat tape
DEI turbo blanket, header/up/downpipe wrapped
ID1000's and E85
Blouch 2.5XT-R-TS (Old version, equal to the 1.5XT-R-TS)
APS CAI (with DEI intake cool cover)
AMR turbo inlet
Exedy flywheel/clutch
Lost 80+ lbs of rotational weight.

With these new mods I expect to make around 380-400whp on E85. I also expect really quick spool for a 2.0. Soon we will know!

And now for the history of the car.

Here was my first experience with a WRX back at an auto show

I purchased the car back in 2005 with a lot of work already done to it. It had the front brakes, different suspension (DMS), the OEM body kit, rear wing, leather etc. The car was still running the stock WRX engine/tranny but with a larger intercooler/intake/TXS RFL/VF22/MRT exhaust/Morretes. The owner claimed 280whp...... but I highly doubt that now. Here are some pics from the owner I purchased it from.

I drove this setup for 4 months before hitting the first bit of fail. I let a friend drive it (me in car) to show me how he launches it....... 1st gear fine....2nd gear BOOM. After a couple weeks of reading I decided to go with a set of gears from gimmiegears (I don't think their around anymore). This worked great for another couple months until the EJ205 let go with a cracked ringland. What to do next?

After another couple months of searching/saving/thinking I grabbed a full v.8 drivetrain and had a shop install all of it. This was a HUGE improvement over the 205 with the VF22.

This setup lasted a little over a year until a ringland cracked....... I made the mistake of not having the car tuned for 93 octane.... my stupidity in believing a few people who said I didn't need to. This time I decided to go a different route by doing a hybrid swap. I had a new 257 sent to a reputable builder who put in a set of Mahle pistons and a micro polished/drilled crank to match my JDM heads.

Just my luck....... fedex dropped this block in shipping and we assumed it would be ok.... we were wrong. Within 1k miles the crank seized solid. The block was checked and they found micro cracks in the block from when it was dropped. After this fiasco I was strapped for cash and needed a cheap option...... the shop had a slightly used 257 which I got for cheap........and my luck keeps getting better...... low psi in one cylinder right away.

At this point I came extremely close to parting out the car and moving on. Most sane people would have thrown in the towel by now. I decided to give it one final chance. I found another full v.8 drivetrain for a great price that I couldn't ignore. Thanks to nasioc I was able to part out the old drivetrain and completely cover the cost of this new one. For this swap though, I decided to do all of the work myself as it came with the full wiring harness....... I entered a new level of crazy. This process took a lot longer than expected...... due to wires missing (had to order from the japanese dealer through rallispec) and not having the time due to work.

I finally got the wiring finished....... only to find out one of my morettes were stolen from the back of my shop . Couple weeks later I fell into a new job in NYC which left 0 time for working on the car which is in FL . This was last fall. After a ridiculous wait I finally came accross a set of JDM HID's and a front grille and was able to finish the car

Took the car out for a quick spin and it is GREAT! It looks like the shop who did my AVCS wiring sucks at life though....... as it is clearly working now and it's like the car has come alive. It needs a tune though, so I haven't had a chance to push it, that will be later this month when I'm back in FL..... then comes the collection of parts for my plan. Here's a hint at my plan...... 400-450whp and 2800lbs with great response.

There are still three issues I need to resolve though, which shouldn't be difficult. The DCCD switch and cluster are reversed in that "locked" on the scroll wheel shows up as the lowest setting on the dash and vice versa. Then the little issue of the gas light not getting a reading from the tank, I think I know why so it should be an easy fix. Lastly.... the one I'm not sure of..... the airbag light is on despite everything being connected.....I'll look into it. Here is the thread I had about the swap http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1480973

Till then here are the pictures from the wiring swap, enjoy.

Thanks for the support guys, it's been a long journey and it's not going to be too much longer until I'm finished with my plans for it. Just a matter of sourcing the parts I want and finding the time to get down to FL.

I've always been pretty good at taking things apart and putting them back together...... with a few extra bolts leftover

At first I just took my old harness and layed it next to the new one to figure out what went where...... then trial and error on a few lil things (headlight wiring). I then took the US STi wiring diagrams and compared them to mine and used them to wired up the DCCD to the ABS control unit etc etc..... it hurts just thinking about it

Here are some more pics of how I painted the carpet black and repainting the rotors.

The painted calipers turned out ok...... but I feel like having them powdercoated along with the front calipers
