That's what I'm running right now in my FXT. It's on the low end of a 30 weight and I switched to it in hopes that my engine would warm up more quickly in winter because of my short trips. I'll be replacing it before June because I prefer a thicker oil in summer.

A few people here have used the 300 V racing oils. Any one of the other 8100 30 weights are thicker than the 8100 5W30. Motul will soon have a very shear stable 8100 0W30 X-Lite that's on the high end of the 30 weight range.

Where do you live and what would you run it in? Click around on bitog (linked above) for some various Motul info.

I'm in the Western NC area. Lots of good curvy roads to have fun on. I'm going to primarily be using my WRX sedan as a weekend leisure vehicle and short vacationing, etc. Is the 5W-30 okay for all season??? We keep mild weather here.....

It depends how often you change your oil. Change it every 3k and you're fine. I'm expecting mine to shear down to a 20 weight since I'll run it for about 6k miles. The 8100 X-Lite is said to have zero shear. If you drive hard, go with the X-Lite, 300V 5W30 or a 40 weight IMO.

Open your hood.
See the oil cap where you add oil?
It's yellow with black lettering right?
Read that lettering.

Waste of money if it doesnt meet the ACEA A3 spec. The ACEA A3 oils hold up better and are rare in 5w30.

BTW, thicker oils cause higher oil temps then thinner oils.

The X-Lite I posted above meets it. I just added about 1/4 quart of the 5W30 after 2,000 miles. I was spoiled when running German Castrol 0W30 (meets ACEA A3) and didn't add a drop. Even during a 7,500 mile interval.
