where in CO? I'd like to check this car out at a meet....amazing how a car a decade older than mine makes me say, "Yep, I want that"...not to mention the RS in the background

I'm pretty far south of the Springs. I make day/weekend trips up to the springs occasionally, and I may drop by a meet one of these days. I have a lot of work to do on the car before I can drive it though, so it will be a while.

Thanks for the compliments! The black RS is mine, and the blue RS is my fiance's.

I found a 2000 forester at my local pickapart, will the subframe spacers work on my 2003 wrx?

What else do I need to pull off of it?

Does anyone here have any problems with their CVs breaking?

I'm looking to run 1" Spacers and forester struts on my Impreza Wagon and I'm worried about over stressing the CVs...

I've seen some folks mention with huge lifts they have big time CV issues.

1" spacers + Forester struts is like 3" or so. 5" if you use Forester springs instead of your stock wagon springs.

If I were you, I'd either go with JUST the spacers or JUST the struts if you have CV concerns.

I also have a wagon chassis but my CVs never broke. However the CV boot tore often. I was on lifted setup for 18mo, drove maybe 30k miles and had to go through three sets for the fronts. The rears didn't have an issue.

Attribute this to our shorter axles, so I think shoving in some sedan axles would remedy this problem. I considered the subframe spacers and trailing arm fixes, but I swap my suspension back to coils for street and track days. I didn't want the geometry to get messed up. sedan axles and control arms / lateral links would improve both my street setup and lifted setup

I did a bit of homework on axles awhile ago...

Sedan axles are the same as wagon axles, are the same as Forester axles too... Legacy axles were different due to the change in hubs over the years, and the STI of course has its own axles that aren't compatible.

So basically, the only option is some sort of custom longer axles, or do a body lift to counteract the suspension lift.

Hmm if the axles are the same, why the different part numbers? I have yet to get my hands on sedan axles and try to measure them but if the CV Is flexing around it might be hard to measure anyway.

The 10mm difference in track width between GC/Wagon and sedan is being accounted for somewhere. It doesn't seem like Japanese engineering to have different part numbers if they are going to just stretch or compress the same axle.

Curious indeed. Thanks for the axle info

The part numbers are different to start with, but they you discover they all supersede to the same reman axle part numbers

There are some "quick reference" booklets at the dealers that detail it pretty clearly for the various models, but it shows up in the software as well.

Got my new "off-road" muffler made yesterday, and painted it today.

Its not as high up as I had hoped, but it was cheap so it doesn't really matter:

I installed the diff protector a couple weeks ago, and I also flipped the bushings on the charcoal canister for more clearance there too

I went up Higgins Gulch today, a cut out of Spearfish canyon, the bottom of which is just right by my house. I am currently in the process of editing the video footage I took in to a time-lapse since nobody wants to watch 17 minutes of boring driving. Here are some pics of the after effects, first time I've been able to go up there and get the car really dirty No lifting or any modification done to the struts or springs, OEM stance.

Cell phone pics FTL.

Here's the video for those who are interested:

Went up again today and I swear I had a smile on my face the whole time. There's nothing like that where I go to school so I try and enjoy it every time I get home

Picture my buddy took. This car continues to amaze me. I can't even imagine not having this thing. I go anywhere, take anything, do anything, and get awesome gas mileage doing so. Stoked.

ZeroDrift,

I love those wheels. I hope to replace my 15x7 SSR CompX with a set of those Enkeis some day.

Which Enkeis and why do you love them so much?
