I'm enjoying my Grabbers as well.

Snow? Dirt? Giant rock? Curb? Who cares!

I'm actually enjoying the gearing too. Running at a MUCH lower RPM on the freeway, and I'm finding I can skip gears more often now and due to the tire weight actually run at lower RPM's than I could before without the car feeling like it needed to downshift. Quite happy with it actually, and according to a couple radar speedo thingies I've driven past, my speedo is still accurate???

My speedo is roughly 5 MPH fast when going 60 MPH. A more exact number is 9.4% off. When I calculate gas mileage now, I first multiply the number on my trip odometer by 1.094 and then divide by gallons. The gas mileage isn't as bad as you'd think!

Take a look at this site, it's a box that re-calibrates the speedo signal to correct for tire/final drive changes.

Hey retrac, that's a nice looking WRC replica but it needs some proper rally wheels don't you think?

I'd love me some real rally wheels. The SRT-4 wheels hold up the autocross slicks real well for the street, and the dirt wheels are either Forester alloys or steelies.

No rubbing at all, they're +45 with 225/45/17 Avon Tech Rs mounted on them.

OK, that makes sense then. I thought they'd be more like +35.

does anyone know the cheapest place to get some general grabbers? TireRack has them for $510 shipped. I was just wondering if there was another site that had them for cheaper. Also, i read that some people have speedometer problems with these tires? Whats the reason for that? Is it cause its a 65? cause im running a 225 width right now and i dont seem to have any speedo problems..

The width won't do anything to your speedo. The circumference is what messes up your speedo. The speedo reads the rpms of the cv shafts so if your tire is now bigger it's going to slow down your speedo. I think I got my grabbers for $110 a tire and mounted/balanced them myself .

It's not the width that will effect the speedo on it's own, but the sidewall aspect ratio combined with the width. The Grabbers are a 215/65/16, which is almost the exact same size as a stock Baja/Forester tire (225/60/16). The WRX stock tire size has a smaller circumference (205/55/16, which means it turns one revolution in a shorter distance than the larger Grabber tire. According to the Miata wheel calculator, you would be increasing the tire diameter from ~24.9" to ~27", which would be about an 8.5% change. The example they give is that at 60mph, your speedo would be reading 60, but you'd actually be going 65.

Edit: Looks like NewBuggy posted while I was typing and distracted here at work, but here's my source: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Got them cheap from Tire Easy, the place is a hidden gem. They had them at 90 something each but I just checked and they're at 110 now, with shipping ~70 its the same deal as tire rack.
