Default prosport gauge owners

i just bought a set of prosport gauges(green/white) and was reading the directions and i just wanted to be clear about what to put where as far as wiring goes. i have an autometer boost gauge on there now hooked up to light up when i turn my headlights on. i want the green light to come on when i turn on my headlights and the white to come on when i start up the car. so do i hook the green wire up to the light switch and the white wire to ACC?

through these links, i found two type popular places to tap the wires:

From the radio harness:
Red - Green w/Orange stripe
White - Blue w/Red stripe
Black - Ground
Orange - Violet

clock harness (wire diagram behind the clock):
White + Red = ACC
Orange = ILL
Black = GND

i tapped into the clock harness. but then i get the following scenarios:

Scenario 1: engine is off. headlights are on OFF position. start the car. the gauge displays white. turn the headlights ON while the engine is on. gauge displays green. turn headlights off and they turn white again. this is how it's supposed to work. However...

Scenario 2: engine is off. headlights are on ON position. start the car. the gauge displays green. turn the headlights OFF while the engine is on. gauge remains green. turn headlights on, still green.

I don't know what's wrong with my 2nd scenario. if it's not supposed to be this way, then i'll try to do some rewiring. i haven't heard from anybody else yet.
