Default SPT exhaust with aftermarket downpipe

I have a SPT catback exhaust on my '04 STi. Will a aftermarket 3-inch downpipe bolt up to the SPT exhaust? In doing so the exhaust will be a 3 piece system, correct? Downpipe, mid-pipe and axle back. I'm not looking for a particular company just one that will work.

My guess is that since the SPT exhaust bolts directly to the stock downpipe, then no, a full 3-inch downpipe will not bolt on directly. Unless of course, the SPT exhaust comes with an adapter.

Of course, I could be totally wrong. Go look up Unabomber's Manifestos. They're awesome reads.

Haha perhaps one of my favorite comebacks ive seen on this forum lol. Although I do think you should post in the right forum, sometimes it would be so much easier if someone took a second to answer the question, as opposed to flaming. All that does is prolong the post and make it pointless. Good job shewillbemine!

ya lol i know what you mean. It doesnt stop you just have to ignore those people and fish out the people who actually know what they are talking about! also searching I have found is good cause most the times something i have a question about someone has already asked and been flamed for! lol so then i read that, and am strait!

aren't there 2 versions of the spt catback? 3" and 2.5"? if you have the 3" version, then obviously it should fit a 3" downpipe. if it's 2.5", i'm under the impression that using a donut gasket would allow you to wedge the pieces together, but what do i know?

you know that 3 = 3 and 3 != 2.5 and knowing is half the battle

It's 3 inches but it reduces down to 2.5" at the flange which had me worried that a 3 inch downpipe would not fit. Thanks for the replies.

i know what you're saying but i think unabomber is about the only one that can get away with it since he has too move so much stuff to the right place and hell, just look at all the research he's done for "us". i hate when noobs are like," hey u noobz need 4 2 use da search button" but unabomber needs a break every now and then, lol. and hey if noone ever said to do it, you probably never would, its just trying to make things a little easier to find the answer to if they are actually posted and answered in the right place

yeah, i have a 3" DP w/ my SPT CB as well, it mates up, but make sure you don't have a leak. i have a small one, and it makes sense b/c the SPT mid-pipe n the 3" DP don't mate up perfectly. might wanna check if ya have a leak..

SPT catback is 3" then tapers to 2.5". I have the SPT catback and am in the process of getting an aftermarket 3" dp. It won't mate up perfectly but enough so that all you need to do is add 2-3 gaskets and that will seal up the leak. I have friends that have done that and it works fine. If you're still scared about the leak, then get the SPT chopped off and have a flat flange welded on.

i think that's what i'm gonna do..but i'm pretty sure the SPT doesn't taper to 2.5, it tapers to 2.75, so that it mates up perfect w/ a stock wrx exhaust...i was told that puttin a few gaskets on will help, but i have another idea, i'm just waitin for my buddy to tell me how he did his, then i'll let you guys know...
