Default New snow... new cars....new i-club members...

Those of us that have been here awhile (read as: prior to even talk about the WRX surfaced) have seen plenty of snowy Subaru accidents; hell, half of us have been in them. This is just a heads up to all the "newer" people on the board.

These cars are great in the snow. They're a real good time... but please.. take it easy at least for the first storm or two... none of us want to visit anyone in the hospital... or worse yet, in a pine box.

Rubber side down folks.....

Hehe.. All-wheel drive, not all-wheel stop

People still running the RE-92's should take special heed of Mark's warning, since those things have less traction than a.... umm.. slippery thing and a doorknob..

I'll take the RE92's in the snow over the bald summer tires any day . Anyone want to buy me some Arctic Alpins for Christmas ?

Lots of new people with new toys that have been posting a decent amount of accidents on dry pavement. Throw snow into the mix and things get hairy. Like I said, I can't stand visiting someone who's in a pine box...

Default Pine Boxes

...Responded to TWO fatals this weekend on I-95 in Darien, CT. One on Friday night (Escort) and one Saturday night (Saturn)...

Of course, we only had heavy rain, no snow here on the coast yet.

These guys are right! Drive Safely and keep the shiny side up.

(Unfortunately, between Thanksgiving and Christmas is what I call "Moron Season".....everybody is on the road, and many of the drivers shouldn't be.)

At least a 3 car smash up on 295N, I watched it all happen, then I watched everyone else not pay attention to their own driving since they were watching a truck jam its brakes..

At least 2 cars smashed up on 295S...

I proceeded to hide on the side of the road and get off at the nearest exit.. on the good side, my girl never lost traction, she felt like it was a warm sunny day, one of my co-workers and his RWD death machine says it was icy as hell..

I hate winter, I like driving in empty snowy parking lots and stuff, but other ppl don't seem to know how to drive, and none of them ever prepare for winter..

Hell, half of em don't even bother to brush off their car, or scrape their windows, how can we expect them to 'prepare' for a whole season...

Yeah, I love drivers who are too busy to scrape more than a credit card sized hole in the ice on their windshield.

Grrr.

Do you mean "LAZY"? heh, just messing with you.

But seriously, people are rather clueless when driving in bad weather. Just this morning, while I was walking to the train, I saw some guy in a pickup truck, flying around a corner, which lead right into a stop. No, there's no snow on the roads, but there's plenty of ice. Can't wait for Darwinism to weed these people out

and one last note, since all the snow was off the roads Sunday when I woke up, I took matters into my own hands In order to see how the Artic Alpins grab, I did some off-roading on my street. Damn, they catch nicely

<----Soob noob

I'm generally not an aggressive driver, and I've gotten the RE92's to break loose on wet pavement before. I won't bet trying to find the limits of the "screemin' Bridgestones" in snow any time soon. No good empty parking lots around here, and even if there were there's too many cops with too much time on their hands in Pelham. Gotta save my money for Team O'Neal sometime.

Pete, I wanted to....badly... but since I had been drinking that night, although not much, I didn't see it fit to go driving around. There will be other snow storms...

Uh yeah, living and driving a whole car is definitely preferable to...the alternative. Be safe, leave the ego in the garage, a snowy road is no place for heroics. Be careful.

Wilkey

PS. It's great to be rolling around on Hakka Qs but even those will break loose if driven carelessly.

iirc O'Neils was dead around 9pm.

Played in the T parking lot a little. couple SUVs showed up. They were white, thought it was the police.

Couldn't even skid with the Hakkas in front of my apt.

Well, I am not a new member and I am nervous to try out my new car with 227 HP and snow tires. I am sure going to wait until I can find a very empty parking lot, or a nice big lake in NH with a couple of BMW's I can embarrass with Team Grocery Getter! Unitl then, chekc mirrors constantly signal, and stay away from as many other cars as I can.

Please be careful. A friend of the family and his son were killed Saturday night on the way back from his daughters wedding. We don't know if someone else was at fault yet, but remember that if you are involved in an accident, you could hurt someone else very badly or even kill them. I would never want to live with that.
