Default Radiator/coolant

My friends '90 Maxima is having an overheating problem. We believe that we have traced the problem to a leaking coolant hose (and we used a new clamp to seal it off). The leak has stopped but the car is still running higher temps than normal. There is also a slight hissing sound from the radiator cap when it is heated up. We are going to check the coolant/water mix in the morning and see if it is at the recommended 50/50 percent ratio. However, could having that strane coolant pressure loss have damaged the radiator cap? or is it more probable that the problem has come from an imballance in the coolant/water mix? Thanks
Andrew Ogden
