Default General maintenance (What do you do to your car??)

Hello everyone! I just got my WRX Wagon about 2 weeks ago, and I am having so much fun with it already. Reminds me the day I picked up my Miata.
Anyway, looking in the engine compartment, I am wondering, how many of you out there do your own maintenance, and what do you do yourself and what do you leave it up to the dealer? I am asking this becuase the WRX engine compartment is crowded when compared to my Miata!! Although I have to say, the oil filter and drain plug are in a great location. Don't think I will have any oil spill when I change the oil. (Oil filter in the Miata is horizontal and oil will spill when you unscrew it.)
Thanks!!!

A bunch

Of course the oil and filter (no ramps needed), tranny and diff. oil, plugs, coolant just to name a few. Basically if you ask here chances are someone will let you know how to do it.

Oh yeah I fill the winshield wiper fluid too.

Change oil??? Change it into what? . I don't bother to do any maintenance on my car. I work at a Subaru dealer, so I get the techs to do most of my work free (I just pay for the materials).

Beware, oil will leak out at the top of the filter when you unscrew it. People have either poked a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain the oil form the filter before unscrewing it or putting a plastic bag around the filter to catch the oil that comes out when you unscrew it.

Well, I just changed the oil in the car yesterday, and even though oil did spill out of the filter when I unscrewed it, it is no where near as messy as on the Miata. I brought the drain pan under the filter and all the oil just dripped into the pan. On a Miata, when you unscrerw the filter, since it is sideway, all the oil drips on the block and down and spill over everywhere. I am sure a lot of people who have owned other vehicles can understand.

You might want to check out www.fumotovalve.com if you are doing your oil changes.

Default congrats on getting the wrx

Karl...do you still have your miata...i got rid of mine, traded it in for the wrx....had to consolidate to one car and stop paying $50 a month for a garage and insurance on 2 cars....i do miss the miata because i did a lot of aftermarket things to it...but plan on doing some things to the wrx in the near future...once winter passes getting new rims and tires...can't wait, because the originals stink

Yep, I still have the Miata. I can't get rid of it!!!
The Miata is my fair weather toy, and the WRX is my not-so-fair weather toy!!!!
By the way, both of my cars are blue. WR blue is very close to the 10 AE Sapphire blue. Prior to the 10AE I had a 90 red Miata too. Miatas are addictive!!!

I had a 90 Miata and loved it. Almost as much as I love my WRX- I wish the WRX's 5 speed was as much fun as my Miata's to shift- although I am definitely going to put in a short shift kit. I do miss the top down driving fun of the Miata, and hope I can someday buy a cheapie and fix it all up to use it during those days when nothing but a convertible will do...
