I have an Iveco turbo diesel that had been smoking like crazy. Turns out the turbo was toast. It was letting oil blow right past the seals.

Mine would puff smoke before the turbo spooled and at idle when I had a bad shortblock.

At WOT and underboost, no issues. Not smoke out of the oil filler either, but I did have cylinder 3 down 30 points on compression to the other 3 cyls (which went up when I put oil in it).
