Unhappy slow sti

i have an 05 STi that's under boosting. i think it's been like that for about a year now but never really noticed untill a freaken lumina cut me off and spanked me. i haven't been driving my car very hard.....or "enthusiasticly" as some people would say so i don't think that i might have done anything really bad to it. i hooked it up to an access port and was reading the boost at wide open throttle in 4rth and 5th gear and only obtained a maximum of 7.8 psi of boost. the only mods i have on the car is a perrin oil catch can and .......an air freshner......:-\
wondering if anyone has any clues as to what the problem may be before subaru rips mah baby apart and starts pointin' fingers at me........

Def. reset the ecu and watch her come back to life. Unplug the negative on the battery, pump your brake pedal a couple-few times, put negative back on. Go for a test drive. Also, make sure that the gas in your tank is 'tween 91 and 94 octane.

(I am assuming you are good about regular maintenance...oil, air filter, etc.)

I am 99% sure that your problem is the boost solenoid. Try borrowing one from a friend. I noticed the same problem when I went to get my car protuned. I was only hitting about 8lbs full boost.

My tuner said he has seen lots of stock boost solenoids go bad. Search under boost solenoid and you'll find some hits.

The part cost around $100-150.
