Default I feel like a midget..

Finally got time to get this sucker installed today. Fit was perfect as I expected. Direct bolt on with no modification. Reminder, this is ALEX super low rail for impreza spec and Bride Zeta 3 sport. So yea everything was cool. Stock seat came out no problem. I did put a small scratch on the console near the shifter while pulling the stock seat out. Oh well no a big deal. The only minor concern that we had was the 4 bolts that hold the seat to the side mounts. They werea bit long and when tighten all the way, they seemed to be poking through the seat. Doh! No problem, add a washer to each and it's all good. It was kinda scary tighten those bolts because I could hear the fibreglass "scream". So it was time for a test fit before we tighen the sliders completely. We tried to center the seat as much as possible so the left shoulder wouldn't hit the B-pillar. It was tight fit but it did clear. Enough bs and here are some crappy cell phone pics before I take some real pics tonite.

My opinion: Yup it looks cool and fits me well. BUUUUT.. it's probably the least comfortable thing to have on a daily driver. I feel like I am 3 inches shorter and I couldn't see very well around myself. I am 5'10 btw. I used to be able to see the hood and the whole hood scoop. Now i can barely see the scoop. And of course the fun thing is trying to get out of that sucker. I felt like an idiot trying to get out of the car and some old man laughed at me. It's gonna take some time to figure out a way. Finally, I feel that the ass cushion is not supportive enough. It is too thin, so I will have to buy a cushion so my boney ass can feel more comfortable.

there is a way to modify the bracket to raise it up. i think some people have used 1-2" square tubing and bolted it inbetween the seat and the rails. just an idea.

Maybe the "extra low" seating position is due to the fact that the extra headroom is needed for helmet clearance? I remember with my old RS and stock seats, my normal "upright" driving position wasn't usable whenever I auto-x'd. My helmet wouldn't fit! I had to recline my seat a few notches back to get myself to fit in my car with the helmet on.

Either that, or the lower seat is to lower the car's centre of gravity. See any of those front-end shots of rally cars where the co-driver is waaaay low compared to the driver? Now *they* look like midgits!

LaterZ!

we've had a lot of customer cars with that rail setup and every time I get in one cheech and chong tunes start filling my head :-)

seriously, the generic setup that most people have is that one with those brackets, and its too low, at least for those of us under 5'8". But seat size was right (again for the shorties)

its not intentional, you can get higher ones :-) its for "the jdm bling", not performance related !

lol pat.. looks like that's what you have deal with tmr morning.. =)

seriously though.. i can certainly put the seat higher.. i'm using the 2nd hole (total of 4 holes).. i'll see how i feel about it after some more driving..

i bought the Alex rail because it was the only one AJ has and i wanted to get it done before my track day.. haha.. the bride FO type rail should sit a good few inches higher..

i felt like i was in heaven getting into the lexus now.. lol..

oh and i have had no problem with helmet clearance before.. the headroom in this impreza is amazing..

cool! im 6 ft tall and I'am needing a lower seat, I actually felt more confidence behind the wheel when I'am lower and it also makes heel n toe more easier for me.

BTW, where is your steering wheel level at according to your body?

I replaced the foam in the seat cushion in my sparco seat with some dense packing foam and it is more comfortable than before.

if you are 6 feet you will probably not fit in the zeta3.. haha.. but the lower rail sounds like a good fit for ya..

my steering wheel is at full low.. haha.. JUSt right for me.. phew..

i always kinda laugh at 350z drivers cuz i could only see their head from the side window.. guess not anymore since i will look just like one of them.. lol (no offense for Z owners, i love that car)..

The old GC body style headroom is shorter than the post-GC body styles. That, and my old RS had a sunroof so the head liner was extra thick too.

Looks like my hypothesis of the lower seat for helmet clearance is moot. JDM bling-ness it is! I hope your bum enjoys itself in your new seat!

Nice seat. I'm 5'11, 170lbs, I'm on Bride Brix II and I feel fat. Sigh.
