Default Weight Reduction...

Looking for that extra little bit of weight reduction before the next race day? Hereís a good way to drop 15-20 pounds:

Drink a litre of salt water first thing in the morning (2 teaspoons of salt/litre). Yes it gross, just chug that sucker.

Drink 2 to 3 litres of the following lemonade through the day:
For ever cup of water:
- 2 tablespoons of 100% organic lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons of organic maple syrup
- 1/10th teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Donít eat anything other then the above, water or herbal teas for 10 days, then ease yourself back onto regular foods.

Iím not a very big guy, 5í6, and I was around 160-165 pounds. I didnít expect to loose that much weight. By the end of the 10 days I was at 142 pounds. Now that Iím back to my regular diet, Iím between 145 and 150. YMMV, and probably will. I know one guy who lost ~40.

The main benefit behind this cleanse is that you get a lot of crap out of your system, including crap that gives you cancer.

If you actually wanna do this cleanse, this is the dumbed-down version, PM me for more details.

I'm glad you didn't start posting about how spiritual the cleanse was, I hate that. Starving yourself is not a spiritual experience!

I have done a 48 hour fast before... let me tell you, I felt like total crap. Guess I am a big wimp. I needs my meat!

Meh, nothing spiritual about it. And as for starving yourself, I was never hungry for a moment. The lemon juice and maple syrup do a pretty good job of feeding your body, and the mix tastes pretty good to boot. That's not to say I wasn't craving a few solid foods after a couple days though. And that first solid meal sure tasted great.

I'm pretty sure I would die if I tried going completely without food though. I start feeling the effects if I miss just one meal.

Well, losing weight is one thing.. My concern would be what exactly am I losing? Pure fat? Dunno, seems doubtful. I'd suspect a very large portion of the weight loss is muscle. And well come on, you want to keep as much of your muscle as possible, not just for strength and looks but because the more muscle on your frame, the more calories you can consume without getting fat!

I'd be hesitant to do this for fear of messing up my bloodwork. Have you had your electrolytes checked after doing something like this? My concern is that your sodium would be too high, and your potassium and pH would be out of whack...which are all dangerous for your heart. Is there any REAL clinical evidence that this is effective or even safe?

I'm more curious than skeptical, please inform me!

I've yet to see any scientific evidence that any so-called "cleansing" diet actually does what it claims to.

FWIW, I'm the resident NASIOC skeptic, and it is my mission to bitch-slap purveyors of pseudoscience.

Go to a Walk-in clinic and ask for whatever bloodwork you want...but give them a somewhat feasible reason for it. Otherwise, ask your GP for it. Last time I went to the clinic, I asked for the bloodwork I wanted...when the doctor asked "Why?", I told him I'm a hypochondriac But, diabetes and heart disease run in my family...so that is good enough reason.

Aren't all diets "bad". There are no shortcuts to healthy living through exercise and a good diet. No?

Maybe james can help hypa get his blood pressure lower. I've never heard THOSE kind of numbers. And I was told my 140/75 was bad by my doctor.

Those were some bad numbers, weren't they?

The doc gave me a clean bill of health the other week, so I'm doing well again. Back on the bike, AND staying away from rum and cokes ftw!

Just an fyi, the in-law is doing a lot of work with his health professional who specialises in naturopath and chinese herbal medicine, and after the "cleanse" he was actually healthier than before. I don't know the details, but his numbers looked better than before.

Plus he feels so much better.

Are you a licensed dietician?

On what grounds are you giving this advice?

Wouldnt it be funny if I tried it, and got really sick, and sued you?

lol
