Subaru Banner Subie Gal's Photos: Setting the record straight... I LOVE the 2008!

updated: Photo gallery to be located *HERE*

sorry I could not get these up sooner...
due to 1 canceled flight and 1 major shutdown of airport security,
my 6 hour flight home turned into nearly 14......

But I did attend the preview at the NY Auto Show and all I have to say is

wow!!!

I am first in line for the 2008 WRX Hatch
Great car - Great features - Smooth lines
cant wait to drive it...

Notables:
tail lights and grille are not what they seem in photos! They actually flow well with the lines of the car
Tail lights are actually much brighter than the non LED style
Carpet is MUCH better than previous
Fold down seats! finally! even in the 2.5i model <----yay!!!

More Photos coming soon, I promise - I've 100's of photos to go through
but here's a taste...

let me know what you want to see, and i probably took a pic of it

more in the morning... must sleep now!

Pedals... yes, they're gone
but you can easily add them if you want to

small features we're used to will have "disappeared" from the car

hood on the wrx = steel
pedals = gone

but these slight changes will help keep the cost of the car DOWN
and we know they're easy to add on and modify anyway

couple more pix and i'm gonna have to get some sleep

post up your questions and photo requests
and I'll do my best to get em answered

i need sleep
and i will need coffee again here in a few hours....

Pictures never do any justice to the actual car, thats for sure.
I don't think this new 08 is ugly, I think its very nice looking.
The thing that bothers me is that the ESSENCE of what the wrx is, is not shown on that car. its too boring for such a "legend".
I hope the reason for this is that the STI will have everything the wrx is lacking.
A more agressive style.
By looking at the wrx you can tell that the STI has a great future.
I REALLY hope they put fender flares on it.

I'm a big fan of the hatch, and I can't wait to see the STi! It sucks cause I've waited so long to see these - now, more waiting for STi. I hope it has slight fender flairs (nothing radical), and dual exhuast tips (yeah, I know their basically pointless, but they look cool!).

Thanks for the pics!

Wow this thread gave me alot of new insights as to how much more I want this hatch. Just bad ass. I guess the led taillights clearness really depends on the angle of the photo. I cant wait to see it in person. Just awsome and ready for the aftermarket mods to pile on.

honestly one of my only problems with it is the placement of the scoop...it looks too far forward. IMHO.

So:

-Steel hood instead of aluminum
-No more cool aluminum pedals
-No more 4 piston brakes

That sucks! Although the Nav, beefy torque band and new rear suspension might help make up for it. I still really dislike the look but I guess I should wait until I see it in person. It is really hard to judge a new car from pics on the web. I hated the 06 STi when I first saw the pics, but the second I saw one in the flesh I loved it.

wow, thanks for that fast response! this past week ive been bitting my nails awaiting the official release and now that its finally here, i must say, those motor trend pix totally threw off what the wrx looks like. I'll admit i think the 06-07s look better, at least for now, but its definitely something that i wouldnt mind driving around. My only problem now is with the nav unit. originally i was planning on getting an after market nav unit with full ipod integration, not just an aux input but now im torn... Do you have any clearer pix of the nav unit? thanks so much!

It's been a long time since I last saw your post SubieGal (Or maybe I just hung out in the wrong forum?)

Anyway nice pics! I didn't really like what I saw in those Motor Trend studio pics (they sure did a good job of setting a bad first impression), but after seeing the "casual" pics I really like it. Aside from the grille and placement of the LEDs in the tail lights aren't quite to my liking (just minor drawbacks to me), everything else about the 5-door is pretty much what I was looking for in my next car. The crease on the sides and the slightly curved door panels, similar to those on the Alfa 147 and BMW 3, are my favourite design elements on this car.

I still don't like the design of the tail after the C-pillar on the sedan, but I have no interest in a sedan anyway so that doesn't bother me.

The 2.5i 5-door, without the ground effect kit and the hood scoop, actually looks more attractive to me right now. And with current gas price and green house gas issues, it's probably a more sensible choice too!

Jamie:

Any idea what is the nav screen size? Can you please post pics of gauge cluster? Does the front passenger seat fold (almost?) flat in 2.5i?
