Really? Cool. If it drops again, I'm gonna get me a nice GC8, too.

I like the bugeyed headlights. I have been hoping for a long time to be able to buy a wrx. And this summer I will. I can see how that concept car would've resembled the car it replaced and kept more people happy but no matter what you can't make everyone happy, and someone is going to bitch.

Question

<~~

Ok let me see if I understand this right. The new "face lift" is suppost to come out in JAPAN first in 2003 correct? Which means those of us living in the US will perhaps get it in the 2004 line-up correct? Being that we get our stuff about a years time after it shows in Japan correct?

I'm interested in what the re-design will be like. However, I think the re-deisgn substancial or not will be a good one. I like the bug eyed headlights, don't get me wrong. It's just that if we were able to grow to like these ones (despite how ugly they were at first) that the new version of the Impreza line will either grow on us or leave us all drooling.

One of the reasons the GC8's value dropped was due to a large group of people running out and selling or trading them in at less than blue book value because they HAD to have a WRX right away. Hopefully the resale value will bump up again with time due to the relative rarity of the GC8.

As far as redesigns go, I like the one posted by eby. The lights being more oval and sitting lower looks better than the bug eyed look of the current body. Make the front of the car look more aggressive.

In the UK there were (are) a LOT of people who think the bugeye impreza looks crap. When I got my forester in September I asked the dealer if he was having problems selling them and he said yes, they didn't go at first, but all he has to do is put a prodrive backbox and UK300 style lights on and they fly out of the showroom.
I think that's why Prodrive have got the job. Don't forget that companies such as Lotus and Cosworth do lots of similar consultancy work. UK motorsport companies have a good reputation.
There was a similar reaction to the Ford Focus and Ka when they were released, but the public are accustomed to them now so there isn't a problem. Time will tell.

I believe us stateside chaps would call a 'backbox' a muffler.

If the new look is like the above, I'll make sure I get a current one before it happens.

Reminds me of a supra.

All in all I will wait till I see what the new model looks like before I get a wrx...I got my gc8 b/c I didnt like the way the new one looked like & well I wish I woulda waited b/c to me the new rex is awesome looking. There just isnt anything like it on the road.

Seeing as how I like every impreza ever made (exterior wise w/ lights and such) I am sure I will like the new model & wish I woulda gotten it.

Hopefully we get the car that japan is getting now for 03. New grill and HID's thank you very much.
The first of the headlights isn't bad BUT I'll be damned if those bugeyed things aren't growing on me more everyday. I can't WAIT to order mine in april.

I believe the above two concepts are just some brilliant photoshop job. The first one looks similar to the recent Benz style to me, the second one doesn't look any better than the current one.

About those being a photoshop job. I highly doubt that it is a photoshop job. I use photshop for a living and you can do alot of real incredible things with it. BUT all the reflections line up perfectly, with the contours of the body. And the reflection on the headlight with everything still under it. It would be near impossible to do that.

anyways..I think that with that grill and the HID's it just may make the people everywhere in the world happy with the car.

I am not doubting your expertise. But this is how I look at it.

In the top pic, the circle reflector on the right is actually the same image as the reflector in the middle in the bottom pic.

All the reflections inside the circle reflector are exactly the same. I think this is almost impossible in real life.

So I guess at least one of them is a fake. Also, that reflector looks a lot like the standard fog light in the bumper.

The whole light cluster looks pretty real, but the reflection and colour tone of body panel around the cluster is somewhat unnatural. So I don't they're real.

Just my .02

Eby's pic was the best and the most likely restyling. All the others look nice bu the secon one looks like the new Camry!

Actually, I'm surprised that no one here has yet to claim that the current Impreza's ugliness was due to GM's 25% stake in FHI.

*************

And as for Wards AutoWorld, it is highly regarded as an insider mag. Check it out here.
OMG that car is sexy!!! Sexy Sexy car!!!

Subaru you made a designers sin when you approved the current WRX. To go from the purposeful-manly look of the previous generation to what we have now... it's horrid. I'll most likely still buy one though seeing how sweet it is performance wise

But you must make ammends!!! Give us something that not only performs but looks good too.

Or perhaps you are affraid the american audience is not ready for something that's attractive in every regard? Price, Performance, Presentation?

Actually, the value of the GC8 has gone up. I just did a KBB check, and even with more miles since I last checked (around when the WRX came out) the trade in is almost the same. I know a used 2001 RS with low miles is worth MORE than a new 2002 RS.

Eh, I like the one Eby posted.

Default thoughts...

* my guess would be the new redesign would most likely look like Eby's post. not out of wishful thinking, but just reading the original article mentioning the retention of doors, rear fenders, and green house - Eby's shot is the only one that is actually consistent with it. but just a guess (if there is any validity in any of this)

* there are a lot of opinions on the redesign which is good cuz that's what keeps things interesting and constantly evolving. trouble is, some of these do not originate with actual unbiast opinions about aesthetics of the proposed redesign - but rather rooted from feelings of "don't let my car be old" or "don't let there be another car like mine, but nicer looking" etc. or other inferiority complexes out there.

i never did get why people tend to feel insecure about another car that is more powerful or perceived better in any other valued quality, then the one they currently have. like getting jealous when you friend gets a newer better car. i don't get it. if we truly are secure with ourselves and what we have - we should genuinely happy for them as hopefully they were with you when you got yours. and let our own content ness (is that a word), not be a function of someone else possessions or accomplishments, but rather evaluated by it's own individual and independent scale.

* something to understand and accept is that like everything in life, the car will continue evolve, as does the industry. there will always be strives to be better - we should embrace this as this is what has gotten us to where we are. otherwise we'd still be drivin' fred flinstone mobiles...

Isn't that the same car than the black one? (in blue with fog covers and red badge)?

I think it looks like it has Legacy blood. I would buy it.

Hope they bring out a coupe, revised top to bottom lower roof line, get rid of the ugly lights - go with a more conservative front - maybe the same as the old front end but with Morrette style twin headlights but in line with each other not at that weird looking angle - and with some wider fender flares - the current ones look kind of annorexic.

That blue one looks like an EVO with a Subaru hood scoop . Anyways, they aren't going to make a coupe and I would guess the changes aren't going to be as drastic as people think. I think the fenders are flared enough as is, I'm not sure it needs to be a 22b widebody, I don't think that will change at all. I think the current lights look better than either of those two new sets that are shown in that picture. If they just did a twin-lamp and basically cut off the top portion of that bottom design it might look better.
