Default What do you guys think of Megan Racing coilovers for an 05 STI?

Seems to be a pretty nice design for the money. Did some research, but didn't really come up with what I was looking for. What do you guys think of them?!

Thanks,
Brandon

What type of driving do you do? Auto-x? Track days? Just street driving?

Street driving and tracking...

I heard the street version isn't too bad at all.

My opinion on coilovers is if you want to lower your ride height and just drive it on the street then go with something budget like Megan. If you're tracking the car then spend the money and get something better, KW, Ohlin, JRZ, Motons, ect. Spending more money on good suspension really gets you the best of both worlds. The valving is good and the car usually rides better and handles better than the budget systems.

I did a test with a 'budget' system vs. Ohlin's. The budget setup on my EVO was 550 lbs front and 450lbs rear. We did all of our tests at the track with alignment equipment on site. We put in a rear set of Ohlin shocks with 900lbs springs and reset ride height and checked alignment. The car should have been very tail happy but instead the rear stuck and the car pushed more. This shows how the better valving of the Ohlins added grip to that end of the car. We put the Ohlins back on the donor car (Mark Daddio's) and I went for a drive. The car was very streetable even with the high spring rates. It handles quick bumps (high speed valving) much better than the 'budget' suspension.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share some valuable info.

....Bill Cook...aka Scooby South(and a MOD here) seems to do pretty well with his Megan coilovers in BSP on his '05 STi, here in the Buccaneer region....IIRC he was the '06 champ.

...ask him about them

Somewhere there's an 11 page thread with almost nothing but praises for the megans. the only issue was with a lock ring vibrating loose and needing to be checked every few months. Import image now carries a new brand called BC racing. A little more expensive (~$150 more) but they have fixed that issue and can do rebuilds. Turns out, BC racing makes the coilovers for megan, greddy, apexi, ksport, and d2(?).

IMO, street and track driving show the short comings of a "budget" system a lot more then auto-x does.
