Default What would OT do...Buy the top of the line new car or buy a higher brand used car????

Just wondering what the OT would do in a car buying situation. I was reading JoD's thread about buying a car and it made me wonder what people would do here........buy a new lower level car, or a used higher end car?

Depends on the "higher-end" make being considered.

BMW?

Lexus?

I always buy used or lease. Cars depreciate the most during the first 2 years.

It was my dilemna back in 04, buy a used m3 or a new STi - I think I would have enjoyed the M3 more But its nice because new cars are *probably* more reliable.

I saw that.

"Hey look, another 12-er... wait a sec... 120?"

And then I remembered that everyone and their uncle joined.

And the uncle has multiple accounts.

If a 1 year old car has all of the feature that I'm looking for, I say buy that one. For example, if I were in the market, I'd buy a 2006 WRX Wagon.

Me, I'm going to buy another WRX when mine dies. Used or new, it'll depend on my financial situation at that time.

Can you afford the maintenance costs of the high end vehicle? If you could, why would you be asking this question?

There's nothing like saving $2-5K because you waited a year or two to get a top of the line car

I have never bought a brand new car because I could care less of the "New Car Smell" and simply because I rather have extra money monthly instead of paying a 500-600 car payment.

Hmmm, let's see.

"I'm going to go over to a Subaru web board and ask those guys if I should buy a Subaru or another car! Yeah, that'll yield objective insight! I'm sure they'll be totally unbiased!"

That was completely just an example Is it better to a buy a car that is depreciated but has little to no warranty left, and an unknown service history, or get a new car that you'll know everything that has been done to it with the full factory warranty?

and yes I am a noob and all of us should diaf

Depends on what you are more "worried" about. Total cost or monthly payment. On a new car you can often get MUCH better interest rates. My new 06 was less per month than a used version would have been.

Yeah, I started it asking for opinions from previous M3 owners on the BMW. Not in comparison to buying a Subaru. We already had one.

When I started on this board, I drove two Scoobies.

Depends on value for money overall, especially how important it is to you to have a new car. For me used is almost always better.

WRX There was a magazine comparo when the WRX first came out. The WRX solidly beat the BMW, even before considering the price difference.
