2.5L N/A: Oil Leak precusrsor to 2.5 Headgasket failure?
I've read many posts on the 2.5 headgasket failure issue.
I know Subaru will honor warranty to 100K/8 yrs. but am being told they
won't fix oil leaking- just if coolant leak shows.
(Faulkner Subaru, Bethlehem, PA)
I have money down on a used '01 Forester L 5MT @ a private dealership.
My mechanic looked car over, found significant oil on left bank, start of oil leak on right. Selling dealer "all cleaned up" 'no problem' & won't replace before sale.
My mechanic's advice is sound, but concerned that Subaru won't fix under warranty. Independent dealer pressing as "covered under our warranty"- I don't want them fixing it under warranty- don't trust them.
Thoughts as to external oil leak as a warning to coolant leak (ext. or int.) and imminent gasket failure?.
