Default 83 GL wagon heater core removal - WTF?!

So my heater core went out on my wagon, and i've wrestled with it for about 6 hours tryin to wiggle it out of there. are there any tricks to removing the heater unit? or am i actually going to have to pull the WHOLE dash?
i'm seriously thinking about just hooking the send and return heater lines together and rockin the no-heater mod for the summer. if anyone has any experience doing this, any feedback would be MUCH appreciated.

You either have to pull the dash or cut the heater box so you can pull the core out.

Well, we've got the dash apart (all lower parts, gauge cluster, etc.) and we think we've got all of the bolts out of the heater box. It sucks because I cannot find a factory service manual for an 83 1800cc. I have a 1600 one but thats not even for this car!!!
We got the impossible nut (crammed in the very middle of the heater box, to the floor) out, the 2 firewall bolts out, and the hoses disconnected from the engine side of the firewall.
We still need to disconnect the cables from the heater control , I know that much... but we got this far without actually pulling the main part of the dash out. Are there any tricks to just wriggling that thing outta there? Are we missing any bolts that we cannot see?
Thank you.
