Dammit, my manual says 16.9 gallons or something insane, but my refill light goes on at just below a quarter tank, which takes about 10-11 to refill.

Is the gas gauge linear? The temp certainly isn't.

Most Imprezas have a 15gal tank as far as I know. The '08s have a bigger tank with the new design.

read your owners manual.
it should be 16.9, but its something like 14.1 lmp gl (lamp gallons), thats all it shows on the gauge. This is to to give you a 2.6 to 2.8 reserve quantity so you dont run out of gas. |

I've run out of gas before and cranked 14.95 gal in before it came out the filler neck.
*shrug* I dunno. |

Yeah the manual states your reserve tank size. So unless you run the car with the light on for an extended period of time you won't ever have to fill it all the way back up.
Except apparently porter. |

I'd be inclined to follow the owners manual, but as I said, my light comes on at a frackin quarter tank, and as this thread shows everyone says something different.

Dunno. I fill up around 220 miles, which leads me to believe I'm driving something fun and ferocious, like a 6.0 GTO...then I hit the gas, and accelerate to 60 in 9.4.

the gas tank on my leggy is 16.9, and the light comes on at 2.9Gal left.
I read that in my manual, and have lived by it. |

not having the fuel computer in the Imprezas made it hard to determine, but at least on my new legacy ive run it very close to empty and actually filled it close to the stated 16.9 gallons. Plus my empty fuel light kicks in when i have an estimated 3-4 gallons left in the tank, usually when the trip computer indicates about 90 miles left in range.

Legacy is 16.9 gallons. 1993-2001 Impreza is 14.9 gallons. 2002+ is 15.9 gallons. Look in the Owners Manual!
![]() Realize you cannot use every drop of gas in the tank. So you can 'run out of gas' and still have gas in the tank. The fuel pickup is not touching the bottom of the tank, to reduce suction of dirt, etc. into the fuel pump. SO u cant use all 15.9 gal. or whatever. If i fill up my bugeye right when the light comes on, I can put in 11-12 gallons. It seems like I can drive forever with the fuel light on and still never takes close to 15.9 gallons. I'm glad the light comes on when i have a few gallons left! |

Mine is very linear as best I can tell, but it does say empty after about 14 gallons are gone. 2 gallons of reserve makes sense to me.
My old car was worse. For one thing the gauge wasn't linear at all. It was slow at first then sped up a little after the halfway mark. Even then empty meant it had only used about 10 or 11 of the 16 gallons. |

My WRX fuel guage was really nonlinear. I think the top half represented the first 2/3 of the fuel tank and then when it hit the halfway mark, it dropped like a rock and i was hitting empty before i knew it.
The LGT fuel indicator is much more linear, it actually corresponds to my real fuel capacity and expected range. midway point really means a half tank. Ed |
