What I do to clean up all the crap that got on the car during winter:

1. Wash with more a more concentrated solution of soap.
2. Clay
3. Polish
4. Seal / WAX
5. WAX some more

Damn, Alright, getting late, and sick of studying. headin' off.

yeah, wax is the protectant thing, it goes last

Claybar isn't something you have to do often to your car, so I just get the Mother's 'kit' when I do... comes with the quik detail spray and some carnuba wax along with the claybar... you can get it at crappy tire (they sell a Meguiars one too)

asherbo, you're car is pretty new so a polish isn't as important (as long as you don't have paint issues). I washed, claybar'd and waxed my car last week, and it looks awesome.

I used a Mothers claybar from Canadian Tire too. Be sure to replace it after about 3 uses.

Or you can still use it on other things like your wheels/windows when it gets too dirty for your paint

Clay bar did wonders on my paint. It not only took off the little black tar marks, but also the nasty little flakes of rust that have adhered to my paint.

Problem was that I mucked up the claybar to the point where it's unusable on paint anymore. The past winter really took it's toll on my ride.

I use it to get rid of a lot of the rust Hypa mentioned, rail dust is damn annoying. Your car's surface feels like ice after you've clay bared and waxed your car.

I'm such a loser that I'v been dying to spend a whole day detailing my car.... I even went out of my way when in the UK to buy some stuffs we can't get here as easily.

Claybaring FTW by the way. I was stunned by the results when I did my hood last year.

lol Ya I go to do a quick wash and five hours later I'm like ya it would be nice to clay bar and wax the car too. But at least the paint, wheels, tires, door and trunk jams, glass, seats, carpet etc is clean...

I can imagine after so many trips to the mountain that your car is in dire need of a claybar, Snowman. As for the rust and chips, that's one thing I've found with Subaru, is that their parts oxidize instantly, and their bolts rust within months of ownership. They have great chassis, but their hardware leaves something to be desired.

Anyone know where to buy replacement bar (around Metrotown). I have plenty of fluid left but the clay is looking pretty shabby.

i am too lazy to do my entire car at once... takes too damn long!

so every weekend i am washing my car, then one panel at a time claybar + wax...

well, so far. only the hood is done, i might do the bumper and the front fenders together, they're sort of smallish.

2 hours to do the hood though... yay 6 year old paint!

....yeah, I discovered that a couple of weeks ago when I tore out the factory exhaust... Oh well, can't stay stock forever, even if modding involves lots of rust, dust and swearing.
