Ive heard its very loud, plus theres many cheaper alternatives like a DIY intake that would have around the same results

An intake will kill your low end, trust me on this one. I had a DIY SR intake on my 05 and the low end really suffered, leave the airbox alone

Wow that looks really nice! However, removing your snorkus can make things louder at zero dineros. I also found out the hard way that a KN "drop-in" filter is anything but. For now, I'm keepin the stock set-up.

For a cheaper alternative go to procarparts and get the subaru maf adapter and filter for 15.99 its great price the filters alittle cheap but you can replace it with a k&n This is the best alternative it dosnt replace the maf housing so it wont mes with youre maf readings and it dosnt remove the torq box .In 98 this was the only type of intake we could peice together so its a little old school but works maybe only 4-6 hp but the mpg is a little better .

i have this on my 06 and i love it, not as loud as many say it is, i took care of low end tq with a cobb lightweight pulley. this set-up has made me very happy with great and noticeable results, i recommend it and i hope you enjoy it

How's the fitment on this unit? I read a few threads where people had to modify it out of the box. Doesn't seem very well throught out if modifications are required even though it is listed for the model (2.5i). Maybe they've improved it?

I have a Perrin Pulley coming to give me back my low end. This is similar to what I did to my 2000 2.2L. I installed a Ganz Flow, and then the pulley, and it was happy times again.

I don't know if you meant me on the exploding engine thing, but I had my 2000 2.2L Wagon for almost...wow... 7 years... till it was totalled in a car accident a few weeks ago. I had the Ganzflow and the UD Pulley put on after about 12,000 KM and drove it to 148,000 KM. No intake or pulley related problems at all. For that matter, no problems other than regular maintenance. Rest in peace little wagon...

not your car, talking to the OP who asked about an intake that was mentioned about 9 times in the past week. if he had simply clicked on any of the active threads information would fall from the heavens.
