me: yea thats part of why we have them
him: they are turbo right?

him: Wow thats a small engine for so much power (I'm pretty sure he told me the c-class he has has a V8 or something crazy)

him: It really pisses me off that you guys are so competetive and faster than our mercedes for half the price. (he said it in a nice way half laughing)

him: well have fun, nice talking with you

"Its front wheel drive?"
"Does it have that sideways motor?"
ex girlfriend,"Im afraid to close the door. Theres no frame. I might break the window."
"You can afford power windows and air conditioning?"
"wow! a four speed automatic!"
"why isnt it dead yet?"
I could go on...

Winter in Anchorage alaska-ice and snow on the ground. Backwards ballcap wearing kid in the next lane motions to roll my window down and asks if my car was "the turbo one". I say no. He laughs and starts to rev the wee out of his neon(not the turbo one, ironically). All I could do was blink for a few seconds before I realized what was happening. The light changed and as I pulled away I heard the rev limiter on his car bounce once over the sound of all season tires whining away on the ice before a sickening metallic CLANG! It was all I could do to keep my car on the road I was laughing so hard. Made my day after a long, crappy day at work. Had the giggles the rest of the way home.

It's a bugeye WRX sedan with an STi trunk. The only badge on the trunk is the STi badge, so I can kinda see if a person isn't too car savvy how he could get that mixed up. But the state, thats a real stretch. ML? I have MD tags, ML isnt even a state code. Actually, upon closer inspection, they didnt even get the tag number right. No chance in hell I'm paying this one.
Thats it-I'm completely de-badging mine!

Ugh, my cousin thinks his Stratus is the ****.

Meanwhile, one of his rear doors won't open, the passenger window was manual instead of power for a few months, and I STILL think the garage ****ed up when they replaced his timing belt.

And this is his second one. The first one got stuck in the mud off of 295 one Christmas, and finally gave it up by shooting a rod and/or piston through the oil pan.

Default Wow this thread is still going

After reading through all 2517 posts to date I have to add a few.

Me personally: I have had more than one young woman, at a carryout or drivethru, tell me the Sube is "cute".

Me:

Me personally: I was leading a buddy of mine to a local rice shop for a party/dynoday. He didn't know where the shop was so he was tailing my STi the whole way there. We were on the highway and I had to pass some slow cars coming in on the entrace ramps. I didn't think anything of it since I stayed in 6th gear and never used more than 50% throttle. After we get to the riceshop my buddy asks me if I floored it to embarrass his car.

His car is an old '98 Accord with the 170HP V6. It has decent low end torque but runs out of steam on the top end. Not bad for stock but Honda has improved this engine line in the past ten years. But anyhoo I told my friend I had no intention of embarrassing his car. I just wanted to get around the slow cars.

I told him I was in 6th gear the whole time and barely gassed it above 50% throttle. He told me he had to downshift his auto tranny down to D3 and floor it WOT just to keep up to prevent my leaving his line of sight. I told him my bad I forgot (looking ahead of me not the rearview mirror) how much pickup the STi has in comparison to his Accord. Oops

Friend of mine: A buddy of mine just got his own STi via buying the car from a co-worker who was the original first owner of the car. A 2005 model with 26k miles on it for $22.5 USD. The original owner is a JDM freak. His wife's father is some exec who works for FHI. So I think the original owner got some sort of friends and family hookup with FHI. This STi is equipped with JDM suspension pieces and JDM titanium exhaust. This guy spent good money on the parts but my friend didn't pay a premium for this used STi. Or put another way the original owner lost money on the JDM parts. Doh!

Which brings me to the point of this story. The reason why this STi was sold in the first place was because the original owner's wife essentially made him give it up. She forced the couple to relocate to a more expensive downtown locale apartment and he couldn't make the payments on the car anymore. I don't know if the wife works or not. She's a student full time. The original owner isn't paid big time at this job but he was doing okay with the STi payments and living at the old apartment. However since the wife attends and he works at the same downtown urban university, she wanted to live downtown to be closer to school.

So by the time my buddy bought this car the STi had been sitting, in the original owner's father's garage (uptown in the burbs), for 7-8 months collecting dust. The original owner had tried to change the car back to stock by removing the JDM STi front and rear strut tower bars. These have since been reinstalled. He also had removed the STi door sill trim plates. Nice shiny metal finish with STi logo. Unfortunately these will take time to reinstall since the adhesive on the backside needs to be reapplied.

The kicker is the original owner's wife is totally not into cars at all. She thought the STi rear wing was a convenient park bench for changing baby dipers. I kid you not. Yeah big surprise huh?

I have not seen a photo of this wife or met her in person. I hope she is either very good looking and/or a total fiend in bed. She could be average looking but she had better be a total fiend in bed. Otherwise I feel very sorry for this poor sap who gave up a cherry STi for cheap just to get out from under the payments.

However I heard this poor sap didn't totally surrender his manhood. He bought a used 2002 BMW M3 recently. His wife hates it because it too has a stick shift. She refuses to learn how to drive stick. Personally I'd have ditched this wife before losing the STi but eh who am I to say.

The day I bought my WRX I took my cousin (who has a pretty good understanding about cars) for a ride in it.

Me: (Driving faster and taking turns like none other)
Her: This car would be great for drifting
Me: ????
Her: Yea since the tires are so wide and all
Me: Anyway (as I turn up the radio)

Today:

"Is your car misfiring?"

(I didn't read through this whole thread to see that 50 other people said that too!_

And in the turbo'd civ:

"YOUR CAR IS STILL RUNNING!!" (turbo timer)
always makes me laugh...
