An older gentleman was walking past as I was getting into my car, and seeing the blue oval on the front, he asked if it was a Ford. I said, "No, it's a Subaru." He replied, "Oh, those have great engines in them..."

I've had someone ask me, "Why did you get those big foglights?" Then when I tell them they're stock they act like I'm B.S.'ing.

I have no idea how you can confuse a subaru for anything other than a subaru. I mean the new hatch MIGHT be able to be confused with a focus hatch, but that's a BIG maybe. They just don't look like anything else, ESPECIALLY a mustang.

this is what the cop told me before she gave me my ticket for unecessary noise while operating a motor vehicle....

Me:how are you doing officer
cop: "The noises that came out of your car, were the most ridiculious thing ive ever heard...first the exhaust and whatever that noise was after( bov/wastegate)"

another one: Why's your exhaust sound like that?
me: its got flat 4, gives it more of a rumble
kid: i wanna get one so my car sounds like that, where'd you get it?
me: its not a part?? its my motor

Well to be honest, it isn't too dumb of a question. For someone that doesn't live or breathe cars ... they're the same damn thing.

You could have taken the 30 seconds needed to explain the difference and educate someone.

It's not exactly Subaru specific but I'm putting it here because I found it hilarious. I got my WRX on Tuesday, and I took my friend for a ride the next day. We are cruising up Broad Street and (I drive a manual WRX) he's like "so is this thing manual?"

No Travis, I've been moving the automatic shifter around today for the fun of it. I about died laughing

I can understand that confusion. The marketing crap that so many companies put out there has really muddied up the water in the terminology department. I mean haldex sucks, and is SO vastly different than Subaru's awd, but it is still called AWD. A lot of SUV's are labeled as using AWD, when traditionally they were all 4WD before, doesn't make the distinction any easier to make for someone who isn't familiar with it. In my mind most AWD systems are total junk. Quattro is nice, Subaru is nice, but I've never really been terribly impressed with any of the others that are used by most other companies. Most of the others I've driven are front biased to the point where you might as well be driving a FWD car and just drop the weight and drivetrain loss of the AWD system.

I get that one a lot. I always think that it's VERY strange as the first thing I notice when I get into someone's car is whether they drive a standard or auto. Even if I don't look, I know as soon as they take off. People in the US are so insulated from their cars and totally miss out on the driving experience regardless of the kind of car that they drive, it's kind of sad. I'll be even more sad when manual transmissions are a thing of the past after they have been squashed by american laziness.

I've been asked that before in my Civic, I just take it as a compliment to how smoothly I shift.

from my neighbor's older brother while looking under the hood:

"see i know your car is fast, because your whole engine is full (pointing at my intercooler and intake). my car doesn't have all this stuff here. there's a lot of empty space, but yours is all full, i like that."

I just laughed
