Default Are there any reverse pin laptop HD's out there?

i should know this - but i pose this to you

in-laws 5yr old compaq laptop hd took a dump (they wont buy a new laptop either)

instead of ordering the factory part# - i can get double the capacity for half the price

this got me thinking - why is the factory replacement part# 2x's the price of any standard 2.5" HD?

where a manufacture requires factory parts have 2 pins reversed so you have to buy their parts instead of cheaper off the shelf parts

its called Proprietary

because the price from the factory is always 2x's as much. Doesn't matter if it's an HD or RAM. There is most likely no difference at all.

Is there an adapter or connector on the original HD?
Many times manufacturers use standard hardware and an adapter to make it proprietary.
