Default Looking for an air intake for my'97 Legacy GT

Anyone got any suggestions for an air intake? I was waiting to see if Cobb Tuning would come out with one like they have for the '02 WRX but it doesn't like it will be anytime soon. I'm nervous about getting one. I've heard too many horror stories about aftermarket AI systems messing up the MAF. Right now I have a K&N drop in filter but I want something better.

I've heard of some people adapting the Cobb intakes for the 00-02 Imprezas to the MAF sensor Subies. But then I've also heard that Cobb tuning is backordered on those intakes. Another person you might try is Larry at www.imprezars.com. He can sell you all the pieces you need to put together your own Cobb intake.

I can update this one a bit ... I've been in touch with Gary on and off as he's been working on this project ... and we will be using my '97 gt as one of the test vehicles on the dyno .... Gary was hoping I'd be available this week to do the dyno testing ... however that doesnt work for me ... so were looking for another date soon ... however ... I think he's still going to try and do a dyno run later this week ... he's anxious to get this into production ... and a lot of folks are eager to see him succeed..

so ... it just might not be much longer before we have an honest to goodness cai that really works for us

I built my own with a Kartboy MAF adapter and K&N filter. Not that hard to do if you're decent at fabrication. One thing you may want to know is that a MAF equipped DOHC car will make a weird humming vacuum cleaner type noise when you remove the intake silencer, whether you keep the stock filter housing or not. Good luck.

I just put a cone adapter/crappy cone on my 97, and removed the stock airbox. Took about 20 minutes, I don't have a humming noise (???)
I haven't pulled the silencer yet, assuming that it's just sitting there as dead weight, not hurting anything.

First impressions are that I don't have any noticeably torque loss, throttle response is a huge improvement, and it seems like it pulls harder on the butt dyno; not all that loud, either, just little louder/more of a hard sound....

I still have the torque box, and the accordion pipe between that and the MAF............
