Default I need some help with a JDM ecu. (98 sti type ra)

So my cel keeps poping on and I can't figure out why. It happens at about 3k rpm when I've been putting around town. It almost never happens when I'm accelerating, and 8/10 times it happens when I'm in vaccum. The cel doesn't flash, just stays solid. It goes away as soon as the rpms drop below 1k rpm.

There's no noticable change with the car when this happens. But Once in a blue moon I'll suddenly loose power when I'm on the freeway. But when this happens there's no cel. It feels like it's going into safe-mode. It goes away after a second though.

Some info on the car. It's a 98 STi Type-RA. Only mods are a short-ram intake and an Blitz catback. I'm trying to find someone with a stock airbox but I'm not sure if an airbox from a 02+ WRX would work for my car.

So my two q's are:
1. Any idea what's causing the cel?
2. Is this loss of power possibly connected to my cel problem.

Thanks a bunch.

first, with the short ram, you could be a bit lean, by product of short ram.
second, if the ecu think's its running lean, it will switch to hi-det map.
the hi-det map has even more fuel than low-det map. after the ecu senses
no det, it will start to apply timing & swap to low det map until it senses det.
and of course if it senses det it will pull timing and swap back to hi-det map.

of course this is a water downed explaination, but you should get
the drift. enginity (sp?), openecu, read your rom file & save a basemap
then log and post results
