Default air bags

Well here is the story. I was driving down the road the other night, and a girl in a Honda Accord pulled in front of me. was traveling at about 40 mph, slammed on the brakes and slammed into her at about 30-35 mph. I am at $11,000 damage right this second. But the thing that gets me is the air bags didnt go off.

notice the center dash piece, broke both screw ports off and was in the back seat. AP hit the window, and buddy broke the mirror off the window and broke my clove box and trim right nex to it.

just wondering what i should do, should i contact subaru, is this a know problem? i am very worried about owning a car that the air bags dont work on.

It's hard to tell from the photos, but it appears you hit the other car at an angle. From the photo it appear the frame is swayed from left to right. If that is the case the airbag should not have deployed. Check your owner's manual. It will have diagrams of different types of impacts and which ones will cause the airbags to deploy and which ones won't. Once the repairs are done they will check the system. If a componet failed the airbag warning light will come on and the sensor or module that failed in this accident will be replaced. Odds are there was no failure and the system worked as designed (even if you don't agree). FYI I am a ASE certified auto damage appraiser and have also been trained in airbag systems.

The seat belts should have locked. Mine lock even when I hit the brakes hard. I was going ask if the passenger had his seat belt on. I assumed he didn't based on the damage you discribed to the interior.

Call 1800-Subaru3, talk to them about it. They may want to get some more info from you and maybe send a rep to inspect the car, to see if the crash warranted air bag deployment.

also is that an after market radiator?
