The purple and orange wires go to the Left channel input into the subwoofer. The sub needs to see sound on that channel in order to activate, since there is no remote-on wire.

Are those wires just hanging loose, or is there a small, square plug? If there's no plug then the seller should have told you!

You can make a very easy modification to use that sub harness with your older HU. See this thread:
stock sub w/ aftermarket hu
post #18 for pictures, and posts 20 & 21 for instructions.

(You can find that link in the "Stock HU info" thread, listed in both of the FAQs that are "stickied" at the top of the "Car Audio, Video & Security" forums).

Erik.m.olson same trick should work for you too.

Umm, where are you seeing 5 wires?

Take a look at the subwoofer harness pictures in this thread:
Stock head unit information -- pin-outs, subwoofer, aux inputs, and more
You should be seeing 6 wires coming from connector that plugs into the subwoofer. This section should be about 4 feet long and covered in a vinyl jacket.

At the other end, 4 of those wires should tie into the 14-pin connectors (one wire going through an inline fuse holder).

The other 2 wires, Orange and Violet, normally go to a square, 8-pin plug.
