Default Little Story About BPM

I think my experience over the past couple of months with BPM motorsports in Australia needs to be told.
I have a 2000 2.5rs with the Ludespeed stage 3 kit. After a couple of weeks my tranny went out on me pulling away from a stop light, wasn't even on it, just pulled away and started hearing this weird noise. Only made the clicking sound when the tires moved and it went into gear fine. Thinking that the Subaru dealership who installed my ACT did something I took it to them. Guy put a stethascope to it and just said I needed a whole new tranny and that it would cost me $5500?hmmmm....

So rather than pay that much for a new stock tranny, i figured I'd get a beefed up one for cheaper. Thats when a buddy of mine reminded me that SCC used a tranny from BPM motorsports in Australia, cool huh?? So I typed em an email explaining that I needed a new tranny cause my stock one went out on me. They recomended their 1/2 dog set up and I thought that was cool, but I made sure to stress the fact that my gears werent what I needed, I needed a fully built tranny ready to install. I talked to Greg at BPM about the whole thing and he was real polite about everything. So I paid them the money and waited on the goods.

Unfortunately due to the events on Sept 11, and the big anthrax scare it took the package forever to make it through customs. Well when it finally arrived I looked at the box and thought to myself, "they fit a full tranny in that"???? Well I open it up and what do I find??? THE ROD WITH 1st AND 2nd GEAR, THATS IT!!!!! I immediately email Greg again and tell him that I specifically told him that I didn't need the gears and that all they gave me were $4500 paper weights.

They were very nice and always returned my emails immediately until I asked for a refund, then communications stoped. I finally got an answer from Greg and he told me he would take my case to the board for review. Review??? whats to review??? I just wanted my money back.

So now about a month and a half has gone by and Greg tells me the CEO of the company will be calling me. Ask for a time and he just sais Monday, real helpfull there. So Monday comes and goes, no word from them. Send them another email about how they didn't call when they were supposed to. No Word. I have since emailed them threatning to take legal action if they do not give me a full and emmediate refund. Still no word. I have Called them 6 times, twice leaving a message and others while the phone was busy. I have checked my account also, and appears that they took out $500 more also, the set price was for $4800, when I check my account I am overdrawn $500.

Sorry this is so long guys but I just thought that I needed to share this with the I-club community. So to sum it all up, they charged me $5300 for two gears on a rod, and they refuse to give me a refund, anyone wanna play baseball?

I'm really sorry to hear about this!

If you used any sort of credit card for the purchase (even a check card w/ a visa or MC logo on it), you should be able to file a fraudulant charge claim against them. In most cases, the bank will refund the money, and then investigate the situation. If they find that you were in the right, you keep the money, if not, they take it back out.

Call your bank after you warn them once more, at least that's what I'd do.

Just call your credit card company and get a charge back... that'll make them notice...

It's unfortunate that we have to resort using genuine credit cards so we can get refunds back in a timely matter. Gone is the day when we can just pay under the trust that the company will do the right thing.

That really sucks man. I can understand something like this going on with a $20 bushing or swaybar or something, but a $5000 tranny?

That's just wrong. Do whatever you have to do to get this resolved.

I would never ever purchase from BPM.
WOW you paid $4800 for 2 gears?
WOW
I got 4 gears for a lot less than that.
Anyway you call your bank and you tell them that you did not receive the items you paid for, theyíll send you a dispute form, after 7days youíll have a full refund and youíll even have the gears.

LOL @ Gary...

Um, he's shipping the gears back. Keeping them would be pretty shady.

Anyway, good luck Will.

Yes, that's why I said LOL @ Gary... my other comment was to take that unfortunate option off the table.

This is disturbing to me. I was always under the impression that BPM was a respectable vendor. This incident paired with the reports of their gearsets failing prematurely pretty much assures that I'd never gamble my money by buying from them.

That being said, their GT turbo back exhaust is amazing. I'm pretty sure it's not made in-house though.

Yeah at this point I don't even want the gears, I'm probably goin with MRT's full dog set up. its 2 grand cheaper than what BPM charged me. OH and I also have some more interesting stuff, let me know how you guys would take this.

The Receipt that came with my gears red only $3800. I knew way more than this had been taken out of my account so when I was at the bank I pulled up the records and it turns out over the course of a week they had taken out $1400 in smaller payments. Totalling right at $5279, but only $3800 on my receipt?? What would that say to you guys??? I'm looking at it already ticked off but it looks like they tried to jack a grand and half to me..

I'm not sure if BPM is a respectable vendor or not. I'm not going to pass judgement here myself as I've never dealt with them myself. Before I spent such a large amount of money on something I would take a gander around to see what others have experienced.

In an odd way this reminds me of ebay. When you look at the feedback sometimes you find someone with like 50 of their 100 feedback items negative. Gee look there is the same type weak excuse every time. The mailman can lose so many items per year!

Now on to another aspect. Assuming you get your money back I would certainly recommend that you go with MRT. A friend who runs a Subaru shop in Quebec does many thousands of dollars in business with MRT every week. He speaks very highly of them and I remember once an item I ordered got messed up. They corrected the problem very very quickly and didn't run off not answering email.

When you consider the number of people who have bought stuff from MRT and the number of happy people out there and in here I'd be very very surprised if you ever would be subjected to that sort of treatment from them.

I-Club needs a vendor scoring system.

E-mail from Andrew McGregor (supposedly President of BPM) to Scooby75
It appears on the I-Club that you are purchasing another gearset and the claim you made for the RA is that you did NOT want the gearset based on misleading reasons.

BPM is not WalMart where a user pays for product he asks for and then requests a refund on false premises.

This matter will be dealt with in the proper means and with the correct manner it deserves.

I cannot express in words how enraged and disappointed I am that a vendor would treat one of their customers in this way.

FACTS:

1) Scooby75 destroyed his stock gearbox.

2) Scooby75 ordered a FULL REPLACEMENT gearset from BPM based on a fellow enthusiast's recommendation, the gearset is a "Half Dog" variety. He specified to them at that time that he needed the FULL gearset. He was charged $5300, a significantly higher amount than what was agreed upon.

3) Scooby75 receives 2 GEARS ON A ROD in the mail. This is obviously the two dog gears of the "half dog" setup, but does him absolutely no good since THE REST OF HIS STOCK GEARBOX IS BROKEN AND THE DEALER WON'T TOUCH IT.

4) Scooby75 requests a refund of his money since the product he ordered and the product he received are SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT, and certainly not worth $5300, which was more than the original purchase amount anyway.

5) BPM stops answering his emails, and simply responds that "the matter is going to the board for review" and that the President of BPM will call Scooby75 on Monday.

6) Monday comes and goes with no word from BPM. Later in the week they do make contact with Scooby75.

7) Scooby75 asks for a full refund and immediately ships the gears back to BPM.

8) BPM indicates that a refund will be issued once the gears have arrived.

9) Scooby75 is still in need of a strengthened gearbox since his vehicle is STILL undriveable. Due to his bad experience with BPM, he goes looking on I-club to find a strong gearset from another vendor.

10) BPM realizes they have lost a customer and decides to SHOW THEIR ASS about the whole situation with the above e-mail.

I think the email speaks for itself. Obviously BPM have a very high opinion of themselves and their product that most of us here in the US don't share. The reported failures of their "unbreakable" gearboxes have certainly done nothing to help their image.

SHAME ON BPM AND SHAME ON ANDREW MCGREGOR.

Andrew, we know you're reading this. Come out and give your version of the story if you'd like.

YOUR VEILED THREATS TO A CUSTOMER WILL GET YOU NOWHERE.

Yet again we find a supposedly respectable Vendor screwing a customer in a huge way and taking no responsibility. this poor guy spends his hard earned money for a gear set, gets screwed and the company wont even deal with him? Since when is BPM like Rimmer?
This is an outrage, there is no excuse for anyone to be treated this way by a vendor. While the rest of the world seems to have Subaru tuners on every corner, we in the US have to take what we can get, BPM seemed like a respectable and well known Vendor from the land down under, they come here, we get excited and start doing buisness with them. The first problems I heard of were in conjunction with the WRX exhausts. But they seemed to get resolved with all of the owners sporting turbo backs on here. Now this attrocity comes to light and the only person being hurt here is the consumer, certainly BPM's image will suffer, but they are out no money as of now.
I agree with Porter, SHAME ON BPM for treating their customers like this..I will never buy ANYTHING from them.
I classify them downthere with the likes of JC Sports and Rimmer...

Unaccpetable. If I can help in any way please feel free to PM or e-mail me.

Based on THIS ALONE, I will not be purchasing any products from BPM. ever. I was actually just getting ready to order a muffler then I read this. I hope you FIX this matter quick, Andrew, before any more people get scared off.

I can't believe anybody would treat their customers this way. Despicable.

Will had to pay a significant restocking fee in order to extricate himself from doing "business" with BPM. He won't make the mistake of buying direct from them again.

WARNING: Do not EVER contact BPM directly and attempt to purchase parts as an end user. You will end up in a situation very similar to this one. If you want to buy a BPM product, contact one of their US dealers.
