Default Help! Side Marker Problem

Can anybody help me out here? The side-markers I got from Yuji have no latching mechanism to hold them in place. There is a screw-hole that appears to match those that Accurit posted a pic of, but no latch. I'm having some trouble communicating this to Yuji, and was hoping anyone that got theirs from him might be able to tell me/him whether or not they came with latches? I pulled the original molding out to test fit the new ones and they won't stay in. This has turned into a PITA with custom color-matching paint that doesn't match, wire harness problem and the puzzle of how to get them to wink as well as be lit full time. As Charlie Brown would say;ARRGHH!!!

Unhappy

For some reason those pictures are not showing up in that other post so I can't tell if they are missing something. If they are just falling out and not 'popping' in then you are missing the latch piece it sounds like. There should be a white plastic attachment piece on the back of the side markers that allow them to pop into the hole. The back of the side markers have the rubber gasket around the edges at least right?

HIHO I saw your pm.. if these are the same as the ones I got (bout 2 years ago). They came with the 2 light bulbs and the plastic piece. each platic piece should have one screw in each attaching a white platic piece.

I am sorry to hear that your markers are such a pain to install. Maybe you could run a screw from under the lense into the sheet metal on your car? This is how the race shop installed the aftermarket markers I had on my jeep. Personally I would be reluctant to put any extra holes in my ride, but I do not know what else to suggest.
Maybe you could get a stock Impreza marker set and take the clips off of them? If they use the same clips? It sounds like you were unfortunate to miss Accurit Performance's Marker sale. I may be able to offer you some more guidance once my Markers arive next week. Good luck.

Just use some 3M double sided tape. The kind used on car trim etc. It is sold at all auto parts places and Wal-mart. It is red.

There is a plastic latch piece that screws in with that screw hole.
Unfortunately the plastic latch is generally unavailable in the US
(84934ac010 Spring, Side Turn Lamp) and is unique to the second gen Legacy's. BTW the stock lamps just have a thin piece of felt for a gasket (I didn't use it)

Just use double sided tape as HIHO suggested. Or use the screw hole to hold the lamp in from the rear with a washer or something. I have a picture I can e-mail if you want.

BG5, Please do! Thanks. I don't see how the tape would work, since the bulb housing on the side-marker protrudes through the skin by a good 2 inches. Are you suggesting the tape be applied to the rear of the flat part in front of and behind the housing?
I'd really rather have the latch. My original query asked did anyone that received these from Yuji have the spring-latch included? I had thought it might just be a matter of swapping the latching mechanism off the trim piece to the markers, but that's not possible. Heck, if I wanted to just permanently mount them I'd use some silicone sealant!
Anyone?
Yuji?

This should give you an idea of what it looks like, there is a remote possibility the first gen ( < 94) side marker clip will work, and if you can find it, it should only be around a buck.

BG5, Thanks very much! I'll take the pic and part# to Subaru and see what they can do. If not I'll try a wrecker. Thanks again.

nubaru2:

Yea, I got the same side markers as you, and was annoyed that the latch was not included. Also, I wasn't happy with the orange plastic square piece, so I removed it. Now, the light looks alot better.
Am I bummed? You bet! But I'll chalk this one up to experience, as I should have asked for more information before buying.

Please post the results from the dealer, 'cause if the parts aren't available, I'll just have to make some.

Paul, I assume you tt Yuji with the same results I got? Live and learn. I don't think it was unrealistic to expect a ready to use product, especially in view of the price we paid. He's now got me on "ignore". I'll post the results of my dealer search.

Lightbulb $20 refund for clear/smoke sidemarkeres

Hello,
Sorry I've been away from my computer.
It seems non of the sidemarkers I have sold do not come with the latch. I am very sorry for your inconvenience.

What I can do is to send everyone who bought clear/smoke sidemarkers in my recent gb $20 so you can come up with good results. It should not be very difficult, since it is just a latch.

This is the best I can do for now.

For this matter, I will stop selling any Subaru parts for a while. this has been a very difficult time for me as well.

For $20 refund, please email me your address, or paypal address.
Thanks

Default Excellent!!

Thanks very much for your consideration Yuji. As my e-mails indicated this has been very frustrating and I for one very much appreciate your good-faith refund. Hope this won't sour you on continuing to import those hard to find Subaru parts. Thanks again Yuji!

Well, that is extremely cool of you, Yuji.
I'll send you may paypal email address in a bit.

I did not discuss this matter with Yuji and just look at it as yet one more challenge! Personally, I don't believe that Yuji was out to screw anyone over. I have dealt with him and have sent alot of $$ his way, and will continue to do business with him.

I've looked at the latch on my OEM markers, and it doesn't look hard to fabricate, so there's always that option.

Default Wiring

Just found this old link and posted it in the Dress-up and Style forum on side-blinker wiring but thought since so many of us Lega-philes are, or are about to, go through this wiring exercise I would also post it here!

Default Thank you

Thank you for understanding.

Since I have not seen the actual sidemarkers before I started selling them, I did not know if they would come with the latch. but I learned my lessen.... never sell anything without seeing the actual stuff.

I would like to be honest with everybody and I donot want to make anyone feel bad. .. I am just a subaru lover like everybody else. I hope this would make everyone happy.

Thanks again.

Glenn, this is exactly what I put in other thread couple days ago about the wiring diagram with a relay:

http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=124152

I just hope that the relay can turn on/off fast enough.

You don't need a relay. + from marker to + for running lights than - from marker to + for blinker.

Default Update

Well, thought I'd update this as so many of us are working on the wiring and what not, and MINE ARE IN!!!
First, the wiring is a cinch, tying one each of the side-marker leads to each outside lead on the parking lamp, looking at the rear of the parking lamp socket. This allows the side-marker to do double duty as a marker with the parking lights and as a blinker when that flashes.
Second, the Subaru part number 84934AA050 spring works just fine with a minimum of trimming them to fit and coming up with just the right size and length small screw. These are a nice cheap part! Thanks again to BG5 for supplying that part number. Just FYI the other part number, 84934AA010 appears to be a JDM part as it is not in the dealers books.
Lastly, Thank you again to Yuji for supplying these very nice markers. I like the lense type, with a clear window to the front and the amber window over the lamp. They project very brightly and really make the car stand out. Finally looks like it should have from the factory!!!

I think you listed the wrong part #. The one you gave is just a spring. Look --------->http://www.subaruparts.com/cart/?pn=...=15&submit.y=7

I ordered the SOCKET. It has not arrived yet so I don't know if it is the right part.

HIHO, I ended up using a Hyundai part #92303-38001 but I'm not sure you need the same socket. Paul listed 84931AA130 in a previous post and I know he got Yuji's markers, so if that's the one you ordered it should be OK. My original order of Impreza sockets must have been for later(?) model. The ones I ended up with take straight plug-in 5w bulbs. They look Awesome!

Glenn O

etam, Yes I guess the sockets look like the Impreza ones shown in your ProcarParts link. The ones my dealer originally got for me were too large to fit the side-markers and took the larger push-twist bayonet type bulb which wouldn't even fit through the hole in my side-markers.

not like anybody still needs help with this, but the sidemarker clips for the first gen legacies work with just a tiny bit of trimming....I can post the part number if anyone wants it; my dealer ordered one and got it right away, so it's still available....

About the wiring, does it not matter which is + and - on the sidemarker? Or can i just hook it up to the outside wires as Glenn said, without worrying about polarity?

sybir, You're correct about the clips. They worked fine with minimal trimming or grinding with the Dremel.
The wiring is not polarity sensitive and works fine as marker and "winker" wired to the two outside wires of the 3 on the corner lamp. http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/how_to/markerflash/

BTW, Did you find the cavity in front of the door hinge full of "gunk"? I must have cleaned a pound of dirt/sand/decomposed leaves/pine needles et al out of each side. Good opportunity to clean it up for rust prevention while you have the fender liners out.
