Wiring 2nd Fuel Pump in
OK, I'm going to be installing my Hydra shortly and I would like to wire the 2nd fuel pump into the Hydra instead of off a pressure switch. So how do I do it??

The very first thing you need to do is wire your second fuel pump directly to your batter via a relay. You can then use the Hydra to trigger this relay via the Hydra EMS. If you have the launch control harness from us and are not using the anti-lag output that can be used to trigger the pump instead.

Does the 86 wire go to the hydra ? or is it a pull to ground ? what settings would I change if I wanted to turn on the pump at say 10psi ? |

No, that's not how we would run a large pump for instance. We typically would run power directly to the pump from the battery as you need as much current as possible and use the relay to switch the ground for the pump.

How about this ? Is the hydra signal +12v or is it a pull to ground ?
just a sec, looking for a place to put the image... Last edited by salt; 05-14-2007 at 04:37 PM. Reason: can't post image |

I finally got it to work. Here is my final wiring. I had to use the green water injection from the extra hydra harness. It is a pull to ground. In the software I set either PWM 10 or PWM 11 I can't remember which(whichever on the WI is). I set everything above 52***37; on the right side of the map to 100%. Thanks to X99percent for helping me out with the software. Last edited by salt; 06-11-2007 at 10:16 AM. |

Are you using larger fuel line when you add the second pump.... Thinking of doing this or adding a inline pump.. Just dont know yet..

Ive been emailing phil about getting a tune and i mentioned if i could use the hydra to output a ground to turn on the 2nd fuel pump under a certain boost or rpm condition. His responce was
"That setup doesn't work very well and I really recomend the both pumps all time with the regulator so the pressure remains constant. This make the tune easier and more reliable." so looks like im going to run the 2nd fuel pump with an 8 gauge power wire to the ignition wire off the steering column wires, and a nice ground near the pump. So when i turn the key both pumps will turn on, however the fuel pressure will be too high, so im going to use an aeromotive FPR to lower it down some. This is what he recommended. Just letting u guys know who are using dual pump setups or thinking of it. |

hydra 2nd pumper setup
Im building this as well, so let me get this right; you are grounding the second pumper to the hydra? So it is triggered by the hydra via grounding?

Youpers -
- You run a power wire straight to the 2nd fuel pump (through a fuse of course). - Next, run a wire from the negative side of the 2nd fuel pump to a relay. - Then from the other terminal on the relay to ground. - Run a signal wire from the Hydra to relay. This is what allows the relay to open and close, thus turning the 2nd fuel pump on and off. As for your question of triggering the 2nd pump via a ground. That's pretty common....how do you think fuel injectors work? I'm pretty sure what I posted above is right. If not, someone correct me. |

sorry to bump up an old thread, but does it not make it easier by running both pumps all the time? I would think that tuning for fuel would be simplified without having to account for the increase in fuel flow when the second pump kicks in?

The point of adding a 2nd fuel pump is because at higher boost/power levels, a single pump does not have the flow to keep up with the power. At lower power levels, a single pump can keep the flow (volume) up and there is no "hiccup" in the fuel map from when the 2nd pump kicks on.
Plus you kick the 2nd pump on during spool up (~15psi) when you start dumping fuel in to drop the AFR's anyways. I had a 2nd pump kick on via a 16psi pressure switch and I didn't see any odd fuelling patterns in my fuel map. |

True slorice. I was just thinking about my dual pump setup which has both pumps running all the time. Seems like a simpler way of doing things no?

the problem is that a dual pump setup can possibly over run the stock or a crappy FPR when at idle because you are flowing a lot of fuel through it. But if you have normal/good fuel pressure at idle, then its all good.

sorry to bring this back but why not just run one larger pump? then you wont have to worry about having to diagnose a bad fuel pump you know and it would make things a lot simpler

Because I don't want my street car to sound like a race car because of the Aeromotive or Weldon pump I have installed.
