Default STi rumor on CBS Saturday Early Show

They were talking about several new cars:

The RSX Type S
The new Nissan Sentra SE-R
and The WRX

The commentator talked about how it was the "performance leader" of this group and how it was based on the "world rally champion" and it had "$3,000 wheels" (he quoted the price as $27,501, bad move by giving the press a car that was 4-8k more than the cars they were comparing it to),

But the meaty stuff came next, he said:

"This car already leads this pack in performance, but next year it will have 275hp."

Now this guy is not a car enthusiast, he doesn't thrive on rumors! This guy gets all of his info straight from SOA's PR department!

So my prediction is that the STi will have 275hp when it comes out next year.

275hp? Thats the old sti power output.

Its odd how the new age sti's have 260ps (ps is almost equal to hp).

who knows, I dont really care what the hp will be as long as we get it 8krpm redline...mmm, you can mod it and make MORE power than a modded wrx non sti...thats saying they dont tone down the valve train and crank and all that shiznit.

Who knows?

Blindeye, I highly doubt you are going to get one.

rumors are they are only bringing over about 1,000 to 2,000 of these. They will be pretty expensive after the dealers put their "market adjustment" on them.

I could be wrong though, and you could have a lot of money.

But I still laugh every time someone says they are getting the STI.

I'll make it a point to LAUGH when I DO get mine.

Who knows if that guy on CBS is a enthusiast or not? We don't know his personal life, hell, he could be on I-Club. Also, I would pretty much bet Subaru's "Official" PR department isn't going to spill the "Official" beans to no-one till 2-3 months before an announcement. There may be some conversation going on, but it's not "official".

I really think the debate should now turn from if we are getting the STi, because we know we will pretty much get it- but when, how much and how many.

My predictions (subject to change, not always accurate):

When: March 03-October 03 (wide range)
How many: 1700
How much: 30K (possibly 2k below or above)

That's my best guestimate taking into account all of the stuff I have heard, and taking into account what I actually believe to be a "good" rumor.

It will be interesting to see the USDM power output of the Evo when it gets here next year. The price estimates from Mitsubishi sound like WRX pricing (yes, most likely for an Evo RS, not a GSR, but the power output is the same for both versions).

To anyone that gets the STI I will be so envious of you. I could not afford the car, well maybe I could if it was 30k with no "market adjustment" but I wouldn't have much left for any fun stuff.

But I seriously doubt it will be 30k, more like 35k plus tax and finance. You would be looking at over 40K. Monthly payments would be anywhere from 650 to 800 a month for 60 months. I know there are people here with really good jobs.

Unless they "detune" it like they did with the WRX then I could see 30k.

Its all speculation.

And do you mind if I laugh until I see a pic with you and the car?

I believe that chances are good that Subaru will bring an "STi" here, given how the sport compact market in the US is really heating up nowadays. But I also believe what Akiata says in that they may only bring a very small number over and dealers will gouge on them, most likely.

I wonder if Subaru will do what Honda/Acura does with their Integra Type-R? They only bring a small number of those over, they have more power, and they also strip the car down to bare essentials and it's pretty much the closest thing you can get to a street legal racecar. No A/C, no fancy weight costing materials, no nothing. And it's still not that fast

Well, we'll find out soon enough I guess. As you can see from my profile, I'm sorta waiting before I make a make a decision to buy a WRX. If an STi does come and it's widely available then I'll probably just get that. But if it's going to be some limited edition thing then I'll probably just get the regular WRX and mod it out a bit

it will not have more than 276hp...

we have already seen the subaru internal docs that say 1700 to be produced

the color you speak of is sonic blue ... which would be cool

are there ANY us production cars with MD?..no... just not popular enough... btw that is the first time i have heard any one even want that

I'm still wondering about the validity of those "internal documents". But when I searched for them just now, the post has seemed to disappeared??

Wonder why...

We all know that the 276HP number is just a farce, they have to state that for Japanese regulations. The JDM Impreza STi is really running much closer to 310-320 HP. Don't believe me? Then why does the JDM STi do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds while the UK STi does it in 5.2? You really think that 15Hp (276 vs 261) makes that BIG of a difference?

But this statement below I've got to say something about:

Quote:
the us car will have 300hp. in america numbers are everything. we're very caught up on mines bigger than yours mantality.
Man, that's being VERY optimistic. We will be lucky if we get the UK's 261HP. I just don't think you will be able to run the kind of boost the JDM spec runs with 91 Octane premium.

yup. however, if the STI comes to the US, especially in limited quantities, i highly doubt the STI wagon will make it. if it did, i'd be all over that, but then again, i'd probably have to sell my motorcycle to afford the payments and the dealer would probably give me jack squat on my trade-in. as it is, if i recall, the wrx sedans are being brought in significantly more quantities than the wrx wagons ( like 4-5 sedans to every wagon going from what a dealer said ). if they bring in only 1-2000 sti sedan's, i highly doubt they'll bring in just a few sti wagons. if they do, oh yeah baby. if not, i'll still enjoy my rex wagon.

Yep. This post is doomed.

On a side note about the above image, I have not confirmed this with anyone I know, but it LOOKS very real to me. Either it is real, or someone out there has too much time on thier hands...

The above image was said to be a fax or something. But anyway, why is the damn thing green? You can't print white, and it would be insane to print all the green.
Anyway I just want a wrx this summer be it a order for a sti or a wrx.

The WRX was first sold here in the US in March, 2001. March 13th was the earliest delivery I have heard of.

Okay, but ....promise me something... Promise me she'll be a car nut, if she isn't already... Promise me she'll drive it cautiously and precisely, that she'll have racing school experience when she gets it..... Promise me she won't be just another yuppie who buys a car because it's "cool and cute" but doesn't even know how to use it....

For the love of God, man, please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I'm done.

Yeah there is an STi wagon, and that's what I'd prefer too, but I agree that the numbers may be too limited to allow both sedan AND wagon, if we ever get the STi.

-S2-
Already on a dealership's "list".... whatever that means.

Spoke to my dealer. He says they won't be arriving until early 2003. But he is taking $1000 deposits to hold my place...
