yep i already adjusted the 3D files for it. originally i was working via a laser cutter but when i rebuilt the files in solidworks i somehow happened to flip the top and bottom. still working on the best logo treatment for these.

I'd love to do this to mine once i get it back on the road... you could fairly easily rig up an arduino or simmilar PWM board and use tri-color LED's to have color changing panel...

if you could find a place to tap into the speedo data (or go through the OBD) you could easily have the color change with speed or engine revs.

Thank you so much to the OP. I have gotten so many great ideas from this post. You don't see too many thoughts on the cup holders...

^^I wonder if the shape of those would fit in my 2012 Impreza Sport Premium, which also has D-shaped cup holders rather than circles.

After thinking about it and doing some research, I just ordered a set of these to install as footwell lighting and also to illuminate the cubby in front of the shifter:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PTTG1E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PTTG1E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Why did I choose a product for motorcycles?
  • The car-specific products by the same brand don't come with LED tubes that are shorter than 9 inches long, which is too long for the cubby. This set comes with 5-inch light strips, which should fit.
  • The motorcycle lights are flexible, so if I want/need to bend the lights in the cubby, I can.
  • These come with the 3M adhesive strips for easier mounting.

I'm planning on wiring them into a circuit that is switched with the ignition, so they'll be lit whenever the car is running. I thought about wiring them into the headlight switch circuit so that they only light when the headlights are on, but I don't think that's possible at the fusebox using an add-a-circuit (I don't want to cut into the car's wiring). I plan to configure them to their dimmist setting, in the hope that they're barely visible during the day, and comfortably dim at night.

Before you order those LEDs, look at the OEM Subaru kit..... I ordered them when I first got my car. They are $40 or so shipped, and plug right into the existing wiring. They come on when your parking or headlights are on, and dim with the rest of the interior lights. I love mine.

Edit: Just saw you don't have a WRX, just an Impreza. Sorry, that kit is about $100. The WRX one is $36.

Guess I'll show my cupholders while I'm at it.

Nice, but the 2012 Impreza Sport Premium doesn't have round cup holders.

Sorry, I was talking about the footwell illumination. Sucks you don't have the round cupholders. Made mine in an afternoon. But I'm sure if you get the dimensions you can get a hobby store to cut some acrylic for you! Or find someone with a 3D printer.

The previous generation Ford Fusion has illuminated cup holder boarders which gave you a color choice, the LED white color didn't look ricey

I bought all my bulbs here. Interior dome, map, trunk, back ups, turning signals, etc. They have quality products and they have these illuminated cup holders as well.
