I'd definately have to agree with both halves of Josh's assesment. It was colder than a witches teat out there until about 1pm, and from talking to the folks that are at the track all the time, it sounds like this is absoloutely the normal state of affairs down there. Note to self, wear sweatshirt! Other than the cold, the track is amazing to drive. Flat out at 100mph in 4th down the front straight, come over the crest and the hairpin leaps out at you. Hold off braking till you're sure it's way too late, and then get on the brakes, back down to 2nd through the hairpin, and away you go. Driving down through the corkscrew is a surreal experience, there's no other way to describe it. I should have been terrified about wrecking my car, but I was too busy having fun!!! There were two times I almost lost it, both in the final session of the day:
1) coming up on turn 7 (right before you go up to corkscrew) I got a little wide, and went onto the still-wet rumble strip on the outside of the exit of the turn. The back of the car started going a little sideways, but I stayed on the gas, and Subaru's godlike AWD pulled me back out of it beautifully.

2) the very next lap, I got bolder than normal about the braking point for the front hairpin, and came about a foot away from the gravel trap at the end of the front straight.

Some thoughts about my very-stock wrx on the track:
- the brakes seemed to get hot and fade after about 5 laps
- my Kumho 712's seemed to get hot and fade after about 5 laps
- the handling was awesome, with the car settling down nicely after each turn
- it was a blast powering up the hill to the corkscrew

Talking BRAKE FADE!!!

I had a great day at the track! I was one of the last ones to leave because of a little brake issue I ran into. My EBC RED's were only about 2-3 months old, plenty of tread to last through the track day...OR NOT! I drove home on the pad mount. (lots of downshifting and e-braking ) It was a horrific sound, but metal on metal does stop you pretty fast! When I changed the pads saturday morning (thank you $32.99 pads from pep boys), they were about the thickness of 2 quarters stacked on top of eachother, and changed from their original red color coat, to a white and brown flakey substance. SCARY. Next time I'll have to throw a spare set of those in. The rear pads were fine...Just a bit flakey.
