Yeah... we had no idea it would be so popular. We built it to be completely removable and inflict zero damage on the car so I could take it apart after Halloween. But wherever we go people go absolutely bat**** loco over it. It's fun!

The Subie looks like a modernized version. Wow, this thread was awesome. had to take a quick minute break to take a breather. Good storyline too...

Aw dude... that's not the original! It's an INCREDIBLY crappy knock-off from Universal Studios.

Aw man. You know, after I lost the first car, I was looking for a newer white Outback for about $12000 and I could only... ONLY find LE's. This meant gold wheels (ughhhh) and a sunroof. Problem with the sunroofs, they were right where the lightbar and rack sat. Which would be fine until I hit a bump and the whole goddamn thing punches through and, ya know, kills me.
I sacrificed leather int. and sunroofs for geekiness!

Well that's more than respectable. She had a '95 Legacy LS before, that was starting to have some problems. She never really felt emotionally connected to it, so it was time to shop.

I put up a listing, and almost immediately got a reply from GRMPer in Florida. This is Per Schroeder, editor of Grassroots Motorsports magazine.
It was his wife's car, they were the second owners I think. Well cared for, and being a FL car, no underbody rust.

We bought it for $14K and change, in 2005. A good deal, at the time. It's a 2001 model, first year for the H-6. We've put nearly 40K miles on it since then, and it's running very well. The H-6 is great.

She's not in to gold, but the wheels aren't bad. I can understand not liking them, though.

Right right. The disappointing bit for me is that the 2000+ Outbacks aren't really white, they are cream. And the accent color is sort of a bronze-ish color. Granted, the bronze goes BEAUTIFULLY with the super dark green and the dark blue, but I really loved the slate gray and pure white of my old car.

Nobody else notices the actual color of my car, I'm sure, they see it as white and faithful to the original ectomobile. But I am always glancing from the white car next to me and then to my hood, grimacing.

I wish I had the H6 engine, that's for sure, the newer Outbacks seem greatly underpowered compared to the 96-99 models.
