Unhappy Well, got a new car... and no its not a Subie

Hey everyone,

Well with the check from the insurance co. fresh in my hands, I could only scrape up enough $ for an SE-R. The WRX was about 7-8 grand more than I could find.
But I did get a sweet ass deal on the car itself.

Oddly enough, this car pulls like a friggin BEAST. It could definitely smoke my Subie, but it handles like a total dog.

FWD is VERY different from AWD. I'm used to my car just rotating in/thru a turn, but this thing just hangs on for dear life and just lugs its ass through the turn...

It really too bad... but that's how things work sometimes.

There must be a Subie Assassin out there. Be careful and watch out, its a conspiracy!!!

I sat in the SE-R at the SF auto show. It's a nice little car - if you like that kind of thing. No AWD, suspension not "R" worthy (so I've heard) and there's already so many Sentra's out there that the SER's going to blend right in w/ the crowd . . .

Is it the SE-R Spec V? That'd probably be a car to get if I didn't get a Scooby, either that or a Focus SVT.

is it really that fast? all reviews i've read say that it's a lot slower than predicted and that nissan is most likely lying about the hp. i think we need a real life head to head test

Actually it's just the SE-R not the spec V, that was about a grand more than i could throw down. But the basic SE-R is ok. It spins its front wheels when I don't even intend to! This happens more often than I care to. It gives the wrong impression to the surrounding traffic.

It pulls like a billy goat or at least feels like it, but handles like a boat cuz of the friggin solid rear axle that you can see.

Next BAM yall can check out this bitch 'o mine, oh BTW its Molten Silver!

next to the lack of AWD the worst thing about this car, it the stupid window frame doors!!!

I've hit myself at least 4 time now and when I don't its always a close call. Friggin door frames hurt when you open them into your jaw...

EDIT: Just a question to all you BAIC members, would you guys flip me off or glare at me if I were sporting an "i-club.com" decal on my car? Does past RS ownership preclude *******/posuer labels?

Not a subie? WRX too expensive? So why not an RS instead?

Sorry to hear about the car. But why did you get a SE-R if you really don't like it? Could have just bought a really cheap used car for now until you could scrape up enough money for an RS, WRX or STi if it comes out.

Oh well, I am sure there are some good points to the SE-R.

We regret to inform you that i-club does not condone non-Subaru specific vehicles on this site. We are, however, glad about your recent purchase of this Nissan. Please note and be assured, however, that any and all Subaru drivers will be on the look out for you. Rest assured that clouds of dusty, smokey, atomized petroleum based by-produsts (burnt rubber) will be in your line of vision and that this may impair said vision, driving ability and the control of your vehicle.Such practices will be tolerated by you and your passengers during ownership for three (3) years or 36, 000 miles whichever comes first.

Performance is performance...

so as long as you don't do and buy some crazy bodykit or a grapefruit launcher, and stare me down at the stop light, then it's all good man!

if you see me, just honk and wave!

PS: IMO you should've gotten another RS!

Cool

alright you guys bring it on!!!

I swear to God, the SE-R is faster in a straight line (stock) than my RS was(more or less stock).

So all you guys proclaiming a tail light perspective may be in for a little surprise...

As for the WRX/another Subie/used car deal... The 02 WRX/RS were just slightly outta the price range ($1000-$8000) and I've had nothing but BAD experiences with used car purchases... I bought two used Hondas (Civic and Integra) back in the early 90's and they just ended up as POS's that weren't worth the effort to fix or even try to resell...Enough is enough. Just an ok new car will suit me fine.

Don't get me wrong the SE-R is nice, had I owned my Subie since 98 or something I might be singing a different tune but losing the car before even a year with her was totally heartbreaking and I'm not really certain I could handle that again so I'm trying not to get too attached to this one.

And r.i.c.e will never be the order of the day on ANY car I own!

Well that is cool, you made a good decision then from the sounds of past experiences with used cars. As long as you enjoy the car who cares?

I will ALWAYS represent BAIC!!!

And the people here (BAIC) have always been very courteous AS WELL AS SARCASTIC as all hell! And before I joined the dark side, I too was more or less the same!

As for pics, sorry, no digi-cam and I FEAR what you people would do with a pic of me and my SE-R... I'm nowhere near as fearless of public humiliation as brucelee is! That and the car is fairly boring lookin in all honesty...

Oh and this car doesn't sport the SR20DE, it has the Maxima based VQ25DE, which all and all is a fairly buff little engine, but I've never driven an SR20DE(T) car so I cannot say which is more deadly (figuratively and literally).

Thanks for the support and taunts to make me feel better about this "substitute" for a Subie!
