Default Why do we still have to fill in our state and city ?

When buying things online or giving your new info to the Dr. office why do we still need to fill in the State and City. Shouldn't the zip code give them all this information. Is it that hard to create a program that links zip codes to the city and state. Because the extra time it takes to fill in these two fields really pisses me off...well not really, but it should.

I've thought the same thing and they really should be able to do this. I can see one problem with it and that is what happens when a new zipcode pops up? I know there would be updates, but what if it doesn't make it into the list.

I use to mess with people that were trying to confirm my address when I called in to customer service. They would ask me to verify my address, and I would give them the street address. Then they would ask me for my city and state, and I would say I'm sorry, but I don't live in a state (I lived in DC).

A better question is why they just can't get the information based on your member number, credit card number or driver's license. At least 2 out of those 3 have the information (or ability to get the information) encoded on them, and they probably need that information, anyway.

So you fill it out on a paper, someone types it in and I bet there's a system that queries the institution in question to see if the information matches up.

Of course, the tinfoil hat crowd may not like such a system.
