Default The Squamish thread

FINALLY, my transfer south was announced Friday, so there is no turning back now! No more oil roughnecks, Fords with 24" lifts, and potholes so big you can troll for perch. 3.5 years has been a long time in the frigid north, and my poor Ruby has suffered more than any (squeeky struts already after only 35k km, and a front end that looks like I wash her with a sand blaster!).

Squamish bound! July 1st. I will finally get the chance to come for wings, hit the autocrosses, and make fun of James' lack of hair in person.

Holy CRAP am I looking forward to it. (Not really looking forward to selling my house and stepping down to a half duplex or townhouse though!).

Please join me in this celebratory thread!

Haha, to someone from the city Squamish is still the boonies! Wings are good, auto-x is fun, and I'll get hair transplant surgery before you come down Haha, from what I remember...you and I share the curse?

Welcome to Squampton Hooooooo! There is a growing population of Subies here. We have another member moving up in the near future as well. You should feel a little more at home here although pick up trucks still abound and instead of oil workers we have an interesting combination of loggers and rock-climbers.

Prices are definitely steeper here but still far better than the city.

congrats on the transfer. As for Subaru paint, they all look like they've been sandblasted after a single winter. That's the Subaru way!

That's sweet, another Suby in Squamish! There's quite a few nice subies running around town. You'll love it here, it's a great lifestyle and no matter what anyone says you're only 45 - 60 minutes away from downtown Van. If you need the name of a good realtor let me know...
Hmmm, maybe we should have a Squamish meet this summer? Howe Sound Brewpub?

I specifically convinced them to locate me in Squamish as opposed to Surrey for that specific reason: more affordable and lifestyle. Luckily, I grew up in a family of loggers, and enjoy hanging off the rock!

If you are like me, then you aren't actually losing hair; it is just undergoing relocation.

Squamish is great, there is a little of everything there. Snow in the winter, rock and water for the summer

I know you know, Jamie, but for those of you who don't know. I'm also moving up there later this month. Looking forward to escaping the city.

Yeah for sure, by the time you get an EVO X I'm sure I will have something different as well. As long as it pushes all the rollers on our dyno, you will be accepted.

Does anyone know of a place for locals to store kayaks/canoes? If I end up having to buy a condo, that will screw me if I can't find somewhere to keep my 14 foot boat.

A lot of the condo's here have BIG garages. WhistlerRally's is IMMENSE and many have extra storage as most people here have Kayaks, Canoes, Snowmobiles or dirtbikes. I wouldn't conern youself with storage for now.

Yes. We move last weekend of May. Well we're taking a month to move but that's when it starts. We'll be over in Raven Woods backing on to the wilderness.

Yeah, I am shooting for a 3 bedroom townhouse or half duplex with a small yard/garage. I was thinking more if I end up in a 3rd floor flat like at the Marina Estates or something. The listings didn't say anything about extra storage.

I can rig up a pretty good roof hanging system; maybe I'll rent the ceiling of the RR Shop
