Talking

Ashton,

My dual tip is due this week (overdue in fact). I'll post when it's installed so that you can check it out.

Question Scoobysport vs. Stromung

Does anyone have either of these mufflers installed? I am interested in both and want to know the facts such as noise, cost, and performance. Also, if a turbo is added in future, will both still function properly?

Performance and noice is paramount and cost, within reason. Are there any shops in BC that carry either/both? If not, any suggestions as to online retailers?

Thanks,
Ashton

Thumbs up

I can attest to Petrie's Stromungs! It sounds AWESOME! Not "tin canny," but very mellow and deep at idle, and definetly keeps the unique boxer sound when it revs! Not too loud either, but very pleasent sounding.

It even tripped the shock sensor on my car!

It is very tasteful -- the dual tips fit the opening nicely.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

Hey Ashton, I live in white rock and have the scooby sport /w the matching center pipe installed three months ago on my car. It sounds awesome. If you want the WRC sound, this is the closest you'll come. Drop me an email and we could hook up since we live so close to each other.

One thing you guys all forgot... is performance... Ashton did ask what kind of performance gains...

If you're interested in sound only most are very good but it is it worth $600-$1000? For myself, I would say no...

I'm interested in actual gains. One of our members has a full customs exhauts (headers, high flow car, center pipe and muffler) and he easily pulls away from me with my stock RS. Only downfall, he paid a fortune for it though since the local shop had to develop the headers.

Until there's any performance gains, cat-back is only marginal on our cars. If you're looking for sound then it's different story.

scoobysport, that's awesome! Where did you pick it up from? I have recieved a lot of feedback from people on this board and I am leaning towards the scoobysport. How does the centre pipe affect the sound/performance?
I will message you later tonight.

PS. nice nic [scoobysport]!

I've only driven about 10km around town with it on so far. Not enough to judge anything about performance.

I have also installed the K&N replacement air filter and reset the ECU at the same time which makes it impossible to judge the muffler on its own.

OK, now I've been out on a variety of runs, from winding roads to freeway. Remember that I have installed the K&N air filter and muffler at the same time so this is the combined result.

The car revs much easier in all types of driving. I most notice the pickup in 2nd/3rd gears. The car is definitely faster and seems much better through the middle of the rev range. This makes it more spritely to drive.

For the sceptics, I have done a lot of development driving and testing on race cars in the past so I'm not expecting to be impressed simply because a part has been changed. This combination has perked up the car and it feels more responsive to throttle inputs. That alone will make the journey from A to B quicker.

Horsepower increase? probably, as it pulls easier on steep hills that I drive a lot. However, the difference is not going to make you go wow.

Thanks for the feedback Pete! I look forward to hearing and seeing the new mods on Sunday (NW meet). I am leaning towards the Scoobiesport, but I want to know my options. I didn't expect huge performance increases with just the exhaust and intake, but it's all part of the big picture...

Leave me a private message Ashton if you want to hook up and hear the scoobysport exhaust.

P.S I hear you have a whiteline rear bar, how do you like it?
