Default Need suggestions for romantic getaway!

So my wife and I are looking for ideas for a place to spend 2-3 nights to celebrate our 5/10 (married/together) anniversary. Preferably a place in B.C. within reasonable (3-5hr) driving distance, or maybe someplace we could get to with Airmiles. We're thinking someplace not totally upscale, but not totally rustic, either. We do enough camping and backcountry stuff that we want to moderately spoil ourselves this time. Total budget would probably be <$1,000.

Sorry, you guys can't come.

Yeah, Harrison Hot Springs is a possibility. Any other hot springs that are nice? (and relatively close? Banff/Jasper would be too far).

Banff is too far away and a bit too touristy for my liking. If I was going to go that far, it would be Jasper or Radium Hot Springs.

I might check into flight options for places in the Rockies, though.

Hey! I don't mean to steal the thread, but I'd like to know some places too. The driving time seems reasonable as well!

Yup, we thought about Tofino. We wanted to stay at the Wickanninish (sp?)Inn, but their high-season rates just kicked in. And it's also a long travel day to get there. Might still be worth it if we can find a cheaper (but still nice) place to stay.

Tofino is nice, but I found it a bit touristy. We really enjoyed staying at the Roots Lodge in Ucluelet--although I that was years ago and I think they're bought out now.

Are you guys against pampering yourselves? I'd tend to check out package deals they have at the downtown hotel, because they do have "Romantic" specials or other deals. Last time we did that I found one near Stanley Park (like the Bayshore) with great views. You eliminate travel time and it's a great way to leave the car parked and spend quality time with the Mrs. and pretend to be tourists.

That is of course, not if you already live downtown... then that would be boring . Is Whistler too boring? (It wouldn't for us, because we don't get a chance to go too often.)

Would you consider the U.S.? The wife and I just went to Eugene, but Portland is also gorgeous, and there are plenty of nice Island-type getaways.

If you want someplace a little more chill, you could check out Galiano Island. It's close, but not touristy (1hr away by ferry).

I went to Harrison a few weeks ago. It's a really nice and relaxing place. They have some romantic spa packages for couples (side by side massages). My girlfriend really enjoyed it. If you decide to go, I do suggest you stay at the Harrison resort. It's a little more pricey, but you get to experience the "good" hotsprings and the resort gives off that upscale vibe. I also suggest staying away from the standard rooms in the "main hotel" because I hear they are ridiculously small. The public hotspring is pretty lame.

You can also go peddle boating, take out some seadoos or a small boat. I thought it was a nice place to enjoy an anniversary. Good luck on your search and happy anniversary.

If not you can always go to the okanagan valley. It's gorgeous there and you can get spa packages as well. Lovely scenery and plenty of activities to do there.

All the suggestions are good, but does anyone have any specific hotels/B&B's to recommend?

Yeah, that's about right.

Let's see, 2-3 nights at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego plus meals will probably be about your $1k budget, and your air miles could take you there. Rent a convertible or motorcycle and drive the Silver Strand Highway -- a sandspit with sea on both sides, and maybe a day trip to Puerto Nuevo lobster village (skip Tijuana) ... how's that sound?

Can you get to Fort St. John on airmiles? Torwood Lodge is amazing. He is one of my heli-ski operators and runs a year round lodge. You might be a little over your $1000 mark if you stay a couple nights though.

Don't travel to the U.S. Stay and spend your wonderful touristy dollars in BC. We have much more to offer.

I know you like to get dirty (because I've seen the pictures) but, hands down, for what it sounds like you're looking for this time I would highly recommend either the The Heron Inn or The Wild Iris Inn in LaConnor, WA. Both have been voted "Best Place to Kiss" (likely by the local Chamber of Commerce). I like the Inn concept because you get the character of a B&B including a gourmet breakfast without the awkward feeling of staying in someone's home. I've stayed at the Heron Inn.

LaConnor itself has great architecture, history, food and boutique shopping and the dollar is strong. - Bonus for her!!

Bonus for you!? Taking the Chukanut Drive there and back, a shrink-wrapped version of the Sea to Sky that runs south from Old Bellingham.

For Tofino either of these are nice:

http://www.longbeachlodgeresort.com

http://www.middlebeach.com

Long Beach Lodge probably has the better beach to for walks but I think Middle Beach Lodge is a lot cheaper.

Middle Beach is a very nice resort but anywhewre in Tofino you are paying peak season right now. I reccomended MB to a guy at work the other day and he booked there. Just over 1k for the inlaws, wifey and 1 kid for 2 nights!! There a couple of really nice B&B's in Sooke, a little closer than Tofino and not very touristy. Look into some of the US San Juan Islands, pretty cheap to get there and with the dollar the way it is right now, a good oppurtunity to look into some of the US getaways.

What are the cruises to L.A. or down the westcoast like price-wise? You may want to consider that alternative.

Yes it's nice, I would rate Long Beach resort better though.

I've also stayed at this B&B which was quite nice:
