Default FS: STi axleback for 97 wagon

This is ready to bolt-up on a BK/BG wagon. I will take pics tomorrow. Wasted too much money on something that is just too noisy for my tastes (I'm old). Tip has been extended so that it just peeks out from the bumper to get rid of the bad droning and you can see the STi stamp for those who want the bling. I just drive in too much bumper to bumper traffic to cope with the louder exhaust note.

$90 shipped

This is a subjective experience/observation. I just prefer a quieter car. Sedans and wagons will have different levels of noise in the cabin as well.

Will take pics this evening when I remove it from the car. The tip just peeks out from the bumper about 1/2".

So what are you going to use instead? I think the STi muffler is pretty darn quiet myself. Maybe step “down” to a WRX muffler instead? Although it’s debatable there’s even any difference aside from inlet tube diameter…

His other thread is for an SPT muffler... which I think isn't much quieter at WOT.

He probably just needed a resonator installed in the midpipe...I have a custom midpipe + STi axleback, that's UNDER the bumper lip, and it's pretty quiet. Just enough to tell me it's purring.

I have the STi midpipe installed and I kept the resonator. At WOT, there isn't much noise at all, just a nice low rumble. The problem is in the low rpms between 1K to 1500. I sit in a lot of traffic so I'm constantly in this range so its literally becoming a headache for me. When I'm on the highway or not in traffic the muffler is fine.

I'm going with SPT since I don't have to do squat to make it fit on the car unlike a WRX muffler. I'm done with that.

Weird. I have an STi axleback and a 2.25" custom resonated midpipe installed, no problems with idle noise....no in cabin drone either.

Maybe its my STi resonator? That seems to be the main difference between our setups. Where did you get your midpipe?

Custom built by a muffler shop. It's a simple mandrel bent pipe, they didn't modify the STi axle back in case I wanted to sell the axleback.

Get a longer resonator. It should lower the tone of the muffler down. I have an 18"-20" long one in my 2.5"

I think the stock sti resonator, though square, is shorter than that.

Hope this won't upset those interested, but I'm putting this sale on hold for the next week. I've spent too much on labor to mod the STi catback so I wanna try a new midpipe with a bigger resonator to make sure I have "exhausted" all my options before I sell the axleback. I should know by the end of next week. Again, sorry for the delay.

Would this look gawdy on a BD? Or would it stick out further or is it shorter?
