Default coil question

if I pull the coil off of the spark plug and try to start my car, should I see a spark in the coil?

I doubt you would- that boot is really long, and the plug is pretty deep in the valve cover.

No because it has nothing to ground the arc...if your trying to figure if you have a badcoil making a misfire swap that one with one of the other coils and see if the missfire changes cylinders
