Default Whats the most tylenol you can take in a 24 hour period?

How many mg?

How safe is it if you take 5000mg+ in a 24 hour-ish period?

Nevermind, found my answer.

Quote:
For the average healthy adult, the recommended maximum dose of acetaminophen over a 24 hour period is four grams (4000 mg) or eight extra-strength pills. (Each extra-strength pill contains 500 mg and each regular strength pill contains 325 mg.) A person who drinks more than two alcoholic beverages per day, however, should not take more than two grams of acetaminophen over 24 hours, as discussed below. For children, the dose is based on their weight and age, and explicit instructions are given in the package insert. If these guidelines for adults and children are followed, acetaminophen is safe and carries essentially no risk of liver injury.

On the other hand, a single dose of 7 to 10 grams of acetaminophen (14 to 20 extra-strength tablets) can cause liver injury in the average healthy adult. Note that this amount is about twice the recommended maximum dose for a 24 hour period. In children, a single dose of 140 mg/kg (body weight) of acetaminophen can result in liver injury. Amounts of acetaminophen, however, as low as 3 to 4 grams in a single dose or 4 to 6 grams over 24 hours have been reported to cause severe liver injury in some people, sometimes even resulting in death. It seems that certain individuals, for example, those who regularly drink alcohol, are more prone than others to developing acetaminophen-induced liver damage. To understand this increased susceptibility in some people, it is useful to know how acetaminophen is processed (metabolized) in the liver and how the drug causes liver injury.

You can't kill yourself with Tylenol, try something stronger.

Yeah, listen to this guy. I try not to take tylenol, ESPECIALLY within 24 hours of having an alcoholic beverage. It's really not very good for your liver.

As long as you drink it with a case of these, you should be all set:

Drink up, son.

Ive seen complete liver failure in a youngish guy in his 20s who required a liver transplant (he didnt get one and died) in a guy who took only an estimated 7 g of tylenol based on his tylenol blood levels. In 24 hrs this guy went yellow, his brain shut down, needed to go on the ventilator and and gradually became unresponsive to life support. and theres no version of mechanical dialysis for a dead liver, so youre pretty much f*cked unless you can get a fresh organ from a kid who died in a schoolbus crash

You might play it safe and try using plain old aspirin. Better yet, AC&C if you can find it (across the border to the north it's OTC).

I took around 12 of the gel coated Tylenols once when I had rubber bands on my braces. It hurt so bad and so I took 3. That didnt help so I took 3 more. 2 more times. I went out to go shopping with my mom we were leaving this one stores parking lot when I knew I was gonna blow. I calmly stepped out of the car and proceeded to blow chunks down a storm drain. After I got home i threw up almost every 15 min for 4 hours. Liquified gel coating is some nasty ****.

dude this is like a get yoself to an ER situation if you took too much of that stuff, depending on the time, you can be treated with Mucomyst, it stinks like hell but will preevent your liver from dissolving itself, if this is like an OD you never know how much people really took, they need a tylenol blood level charcoal and a stomach pumping

Yeah, made it through the night...

Prolly didn't help that I had a beer that day.

I had spaced the doses out enough, drank a lot of fluids, slept between doses (2 or so hour naps between), and I weigh a lot and have a lot of blood so I think that factored into it.

Feel like crap still today... stomach hurts like hell (off to my left side)... have MAJOR gas (no farting or burping, just bloated). Tums have been working good.

Fever is gone so Tylenol is no longer needed.
