still looks fine though...

I ordered the Borla Replica's from A2r. They should be here by Friday.

I also ordered this magnaflow muffler to be installed by a custom exhaust shop near me:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...8580QQtcZphoto

I'm hoping for the deep boxer rumble . And after some research I think I found that this setup will give it to me.

Does anyone have any experience or sound clips of a setup similar to this one?

Smile Do Skid Plates Fit Though?

Looking for a different header than my Borla that will allow fitment of an aluminium skid plate. Anybody running these ebay headers have skid plates? What is fitment like?

I finally got around to putting some silicone on the header gaskets this weekend, but it still makes that kinda hissing underhood sound until they really heat up...so i'm guessing it wasn't leaking, maybe just the sound of the exhaust pulses in the tubes becuase there are no more heat sheilds to keep in the sound? anybody else have any idea what i'm talking about?

No, that sounds like a classic leak - it'll leak until things warm up and the metal expands to fill in the gaps.

i used the super copper permatex that everyone said they used on them...if not leaking from the gasekt, where else? all the welds looked good when they went in.

Let me know how you like it and if possible, get a sound clip.

That is basically the same set-up I am looking for.

Installed my speedy-racer headers last night - quite satisfied overall but I do have a clearance issue which is resulting in a rattle/resonance, as detailed here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost....5&postcount=21

so, they were hitting my power steering line - had them heated and tweaked a bit at a muffler shop this AM - will see how they are after a few heat cycles...

I'm having that somewhat of a hissing noise too but can't figure out if its a leak or not. Whats a good leak tester? I've heard about putting soap on and using that but im worried about cracking? It seems like the hiss goes away if i drive the highway for 5+ minutes, so is that the headers expanding from heat or am I just hearing the new headers? Power seems fine if not better than before.

glad to see i'm not alone on this one...does your's hiss really noticeably next to the barrier? whenever i'm on a road with a barrier, i can hear it but whoever is riding co-driver can't, so i'm thinking it's a weld on the driver's side

Yeah same exact thing. It's slightly annoying, I'd rather just hear it all through the rear, but it also just sounds like a cool intake. So is this normal and no leaks, anyone know? Or is it one of the welds or something thats shot?

I'm sending mine back for a manufacturer's defect and getting another set. I'm 99% sure that it's a leak because everyone else i've talked to doesn't have that sound. I'll keep ya updated on how the new set sounds

I figured I would update:

I received my Borla replicas from A2r 2 days ago and installed them last night. The fit went pretty well with minor pulling and pushing to get them to fit correctly. The sound is a little deeper with the stock exhaust. It is a little more rumbly at low RPM's but nothing extremely noticeable. Tomorrow morning I am going into the shop to have a custom cat back made with the magnaflow muffler I purchased. I will update tomorrow (hopefully with a sound clip) to let you guys know the difference.

Well, everything is installed and WOW!!

The rumble is INSAAAANE. I love it.

I have the Borla replica's from A2r and this Magnaflow muffler:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...8580QQtcZphoto

I had Muffler Man make me a custom catback exhaust with the muffler for $150. A guy near me would have done it for $110 but I didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks. They used Mandrel bends and did a great job on the welding. I watched through the whole process.

I will get a sound clip as soon as I can but right now I don't have a mic capable of giving the sound justice.

However, I found this clip which sounds as close to identical as mine as you can get:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awyFJ...elated&search=

I recommend this setup VERY highly.

BTW: I have an '05 RS.

what was your total cost? did you keep the stock cat section? was it stainless or mild steel tubing? what diameter?

i want to get these headers, cat section and an axleback as well, but im concerned with drone and loudness. the video clip you posted sounds like it may drone on the highway.

any drone problems yet?

sry for all the questions, but im really interested in this!!
