Default Anyone with a Qtec cutout?

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=qtec+cutout

Anyone have one of these? Who sells and installs these locally?

I have a little one and don't want to kill his eardrums plus an aftermarket exhaust is much louder in a wagon.

I have a cutout, it is right after my 3" catless downpipe. Yes it sounds silly loud (set off car alarms if you rev by them loud), yes it rattles the crap out of the inside of your car (its kinda of funny though because different things rattle at different RPMs), yes the butt dyno says it gives you a little more power (not enough to need a tune but if you were to do intake as well it might be an idea on a turboed car), but the beauty of this thing is when you are a few blocks away from home you just close her up and everything sounds stock. As for install, Chris (Loomin) did mine for a very fair price and did a great job on it (even with all the stuck bolts on my 94 Legacy).

P.S. funkmasta has one too and will prolly post in here once he wakes up

Did you order it from qtec or buy it locally? How much did you pay?

only place to get the qtec is from quicktime performance. i've bought 2 from them, and i couldn't be happier. i wish they didn't ship UPS, but if you get it sent to point roberts you'll save their brokerage fees.

one thing though, if you put it anywhere in the DP, or close to it, it will be very, very loud. any further back and ground clearance can become an issue, as the motor sticks out at an angle (what angle is obviously your choice, but again, your options will be more limited)

as for what you pay, prices are on their website. shipped to your door, UPS will charge you approximately 80 dollars in brokerage.

I know of a few people off the top of my head that want one.... maybe we should try to arrange a group buy?

I have had one for years, and it's great.
Nobody can "install" one because it needs to be fabbed into the pipe. I had Kinetic do my work, and overall I'm into my whole setup for over $1400, including the custom midpipe and Invidia downpipe. Datalogs have proven that there is no change to the air/fuel ratios when the pipe is open, I confirmed that pretty much all day saturday. As for power, we'll see how much it makes over the next few weeks. Trust me, with a cutout there are so many smack talkers, and so little time to shut them down.

When it's open, it's loud. It scares both my kids, and the family dog. The great thing is that when it's closed, it's only slightly louder than stock. Plus, being a turbo car you already have a bit of a muffler in the form of a turbine anyway. That helps, albeit not too much.

Where are you located skittle?
Maybe we can arrange for a bit of a display.

I've heard hypa's cutout probably more than 10 times on different occasions. With the stock muffler, it sounds like a every day commuter and has a nice stock sound to it. Once the switch is on, it idles like a 5.0L Mustang and whales like a retarded person crossing the finish line of a race. Its sickening. I'm envious to hell.

I think hypa's cutout set off 15-20 Mazda 3's at the last RS meet. That was fun

I would do an EWG sest-up before doing a cut-out, as far as bang for buck I think you will see better results. As far as having a really cool toy which will be quiet if shut from idle through WOT then get the cut-out. I only saw Hypa's on the WRX and it was pretty doap.

hahaha, thanks guys.
fuka, there was a thread about it on the Mazda3 club's website. I got a total of 18 car alarms, but they blamed the sensitivity settings, not the exhaust.

No problem.
I was hoping to head into Vancouver with it tomorrow, but now I'm stuck driving the truck PM me with your tel#, and whereabout you work, and we can get together in the near future.

+1 for EWG too.
I'm seeing some really positive feedback from the EWG guys, even on stock turbos. Controlling boost, ftw!
