Anyone ever have an issue with their trunk lock not working< I have a 04 WRX Sedan and the lock doesn't seem to want to turn. It isn't in valet mode I double checked and I can release from inside. I took the emergency release panel of to make sure the linkage is fine and it is all connected but the lock will not budge. Any ideas or suggestions?
If my lock is infact faulty does anyone know how one would get a new core lock and match that up to your keys? Thanks, Kevin

Do you use a remote trunk pop most of the time?? Like with your alarm??
If so, it needs lube.... get some lock de-icer and some non-aresol(but aresol would work, WD-40 not so much) lube for it and just start working it.... use the de-icer to help "free" it up and then get some lube in there and carefully start working it with the key.... If you can, blow it out with a air compressor and sprayer and re-lube... |

I don't have a remote trunk pop. The only way to open it is via the hatch release by the gas tank opener or the key lock.
The air compressor and lube is a good idea. I'll see if that helps. A question I have is if that linkage on the back of the lock should move without the key turning it. I tried to move it to see if the linkage would work but it wouldn't move at all. So I am wondering if that is an indication of a busted/jammed lock or the key must be inserted for the linkage mechanism to move. |

Figured it out. I am not sure how to describe this, but the squared pins that stick out (if you have seen a yakima core lock you'll know what I mean) got stuck some how. I just took a flat head screw driver and pressed them in several times. After that no issues. There seemed to be plenty of grease so I am not sure how 1 or more got stuck.
Anyway, if anyone runs into a lock jamming this could be what is going on. You'll have to most likely take apart the linkage which is pretty much easy. Just take off the clip holding the lock to the trunk then take the retaining clip holding the linkage to the back of the lock. |
