Question the help squirrel decide where to move thread v2.0

OK, I thow i pitched my florida idea out a month ago, not sure how many people decided to open it, but i have an update. OK< looks like Florida won't pan out til around October, and while it's not that long, i have not signed a contract, and we are still on promisary terms ie. we want you, come take test(easy test), interview on-spot(I interview well), WHEN there is a vacancy in one of the places you chose you are first on the list. Now they do have a vacancy but it's in rural florida. Being in rural MD is bad enough, and i am borderline depressed everytime im off work. So, I decided for ****s and giggles to shoot out some more resumes pretty much all across the country and Canada eh.

OK< Background I'm a gas turbine technician/bulk petroleum terminal supervisor/power plant operator/maintenance tech/control room operator/with some skillss dealing with overhauling maintenance programs/lockout tagout/ Lean 6 sigma greenbelt. Basically any power plant, fuel farm, industrial and marine propulsion type job is fine.

OK, back to the point, I really aren't too close with my family, everyone lives in illinois, and i really want to be away. After tunning my resume on the 5th ive had over 40saves, a few email, and some feeler phone calls. But i really don't know where the hell i want to live. I don't really care for cold and winters but it wont kill me. SO far my list compiles of all warm weather places aside from a couple places i hit up in canada, really canada would be just to own some cars we don't get here, and to say eh after every sentence

ok, so far

Cali: S.F. area
Florida: Orlando or Cocoa
NM: not too far from Albe(?however you spell it)
NV: near reno
AZ: yuma, phoenix, tuscan
And Washington state, well, ive always thought seattle was cool, though i've never been there. So, people from said locations could you give me your take on it...

p.s. POle is of the top places im considering

Seattle is pretty cool but its also literally cool; winters are especially dark and gloomy. If you like warm, sunny weather it's not for you.

I voted Arizona, and I'm right behind you if everything pans out. I'm a bit biased b/c a good chunk of my family is out there (including my parents, outside of Tucson), but I absolutely love it out there. If I get this transfer, I'll be living / working in Goodyear (25 mins west of PHX, close enough to enjoy it, out far enough to get away from the traffic, etc). You really can't ask for a more complete state than Arizona...

Orlando/Cocoa. I just spent a week there, it awesome. I live in NJ and the Orlando area didn't seem rural to me at all.

While yuma is nice..
I don't like it due to the fact there is no grass and they believe sand is an acceptable sub for landscaping..
All the roads are neverending grids..
And to go anywhere that isn't Yuma.. you've got to drive for an hour(s)+ across featureless expanses.

OK, what are your Canadian options? If it's Sarnia, it's not worth it. Sarnia has some huge refineries and chemical plants, but that's about it. It's flat, boring, redneck and too close to Detroit.

I hate Yuma.

The winters are nice as long as you can survive the geezers, but the summers are brutal.

Washington state for the win! I love it up here. The winters tend to be dark and gray, but the spring and summer are amazing. The fall is great as long as you don't mind the gray, the colors of the trees (that aren't evergreens) are wonderful.

Our winters aren't nearly as nasty as the east coast and midwest.

We can get colder and we can get ice and snow, but it's just not quite the same. And Seattle doesn't get that cold. They complain but it's really not bad, especially compared to where I live in WA. They get a lot more rain than anything, and when they do get any snow or ice the whole city shuts down.

In that case your talking about the Vancouver area (Surrey). Vancouver is an excellent location. At certain times of the year you can ski in the morning and go swimming in the ocean in the afternoon. Very relaxed cool vibe in the city. Expensive though - by Canadian standards. Winters are more rain than snow.
